    Help with frankenstein car shifter

Trying to figure out what this prev. Owner was thinking. Here are pics of shifter and linkage( seems right length) but

1 linkage is too short to clip on trans side
2 its too thick to go through shifter
3 other pictires show a "brace"(probably wrong term) going from trans to behind shifter

Would rather buy the right stuff than guess. All I can see from the trans is its a getrag and has the aftermarket mount accounting for m50 swap.

Any help appreciated! Shifter is also ridiculously long!

EDIT: figured out its a chasis mount shifter which means I dont need what i thought was a brace butbis actually part of the shifter arm.

I think I just need a proper length dssr?

    Looking at the pics:

#1 - The selector joint on the transmission is the earlier style that's not symmetrical, whereas the updated part (9/89+) is symmetrical for the your selector rod to work

#2 - Shifter looks like some sort of aftermarket chassis mount style. If there's a brand name maybe you can look up to see what linkage it's meant for (some of the custom short shifters use their own dedicated linkage), otherwise you can try enlarging the opening if you want to keep that particular shifter. The DSSR's help remove the slop from the stock selector rod if you want to tighten things up

#3 - The 'brace' is the factory rear mount for the factory shift carrier. The chassis/top mount shifters ditch the stock carrier setup altogether

I did find this that looks like what im supposed to be using with the getrag/m50 swap. Does that seem right?

I may enlarge the whole or just ditch the shifter and get a different chasis mount so I know what I have. Plus this is ridiculously high for my liking

The 24v twisted DSSR will correct the angle so the shifter is closer to center and not leaned over to the right side of the car. You will need the late style selector joint on the transmission as well for that to work. For the height of the shift lever, some chassis mount setups may sit lower, or you'll have to swap back to the stock style shift lever & carrier depending on preference.

the one in the 2nd picture is what you want, and agreed much easier to change when transmission is out of the car!

Already got that one off... dreading trying to do the one with trans in car.i may end up getting an extended one because I read it might be 10mm too short(pivoted shifter forward) with the chasis mount.

Do you happen to know if thats necessary?
