    318is Cooling System Questions

Hello all. I'm looking for someone to assist me with my E30. I am rebuilding most of the stuff on the car and I have some parts from my old E30 build. I want to get rid of the M42 radiator. I have a Mishimoto E30/E36 radiator and I want to get it plumbed up correctly. The previous owner of the car disconnected the heater core and I want to get it plumbed back in correctly. I tried to reverse engineer the diagrams from Realoem but I'm having hard time figuring out how to get things plumbed up with it being a 318. Plumbing the radiator to the pump is pretty self explanitory. The car is OBD1 converted and the spider hoses intake manifold hosing is deleted. Questions would be:

what would be the best option for overflow and heater function(I have a late model tank, early model tank and a chasebay universal)?
can I plumb the heater core in with generic hoses or OEM and if so where should it be routed?

    Hope all that makes sense

    For my 318is m42 to obd1 24v swap I used the following:
    • m20 late model expansion tank mounted like a late model 325i on driver side & e36 expansion tank cap
    • m20 late model spider hose which runs along the block to the heater core, plus has the correct T-section to properly connect to the m20 expansion tank
    • m20 late model hose that runs from back of head to heater core
    • e36 6-cylinder radiator hoses (Mishimoto radiator fitment might be a bit thicker than OEM Behr style radiator so might want to check fitment---worse case you can get generic auto parts store hose and trim to fit)
The other bit i needed was the 6-cylinder lower plastic radiator support post, as the m42 has a longer one to compensate for the smaller size of the m42 radiator

Thanks, that helps a lot. So that kinda answers the question about the hose that attaches to the expansion tank. I ordered the lower radiator mounts from a 6 cylinder already. Did you have the provisions to mount the expansion tank on the driver side? I'll poke around and see if I can find a picture of how someone mounted it unless you have some pictures.

Can you tell me if I need the upper or lower hose into the heater core? 1 or 2?
