    S50 paid for!!

The major step has been taken! Sent a check to a guy today for an 85,000 mile late build s50.

A couple questions that I'm sure could be answered with extensive searching:

    1) I ordered some e21 320i tranny mounts that didn't have the metal "cup" in the picture from pelican. am I ok with these or no?

    2) I'm unsure of the dme thats coming with the motor. A "red" 413 is what I want, correct? Is it going to have ews? Do I need a chip to make it work? source for chip?

    3) Will an s50 or s52 flywheel both work with my motor? My clutch kit just needs to match my flywheel, right? Also, will my getrag 260 shift fork work or do I need one from an e36?

    4) what electric fan setups do you guys like?

I've been searching and reading this stuff for about 3 years on and off now. Its cool to be finally making a move! Thanks for the help.

the 413 will work I would get a chip with it though. For the flywheel question look at realoem.com and look the part numbers up. I have a spal fan from bimmerworld and it works really well. Good luck with your swap.

You should use a M20 single mass flywheel and clutch, you can also use the 260.
You will need to either make a custom mount or shim your mounts, whatever.
Just search around, There is a shit load of info on this whole swap process. ITs not hard to find what you need just by looking in the 24V swap section.

bimmerworld has just 1 spal listed for e30 use and it is a pull configuration. Is this the one that has been working well for you?

I plan to use the getrag 260 and I have a modified tranny bracket for it.

For flywheels, the m20 does not allow you to adjust the vanos if necessary - this is why I wanted to use the dohc flywheel. However, there is a difference in the s50 v s52 flywheels when ordering a clutch. - I just want to know if the s52 flywheel/clutch will work on my s50.

            thanks guys

I'd rather have a pusher for clearance b/w the engine and radiator. Are you using push or pull?

Explain?? Do you mean it doesnt allow for you to lock the motor in place? Because I know when I installed my vanos I just used the cam lock tool like pelican parts explained to do.

Aw yeah I am using a pusher. No way in hell I can fit a puller.

Thats just what I've read. If you are able to do it with the m20 flywheel, that will save me some dollars.

Congrats. Welcome to the long process of reading multiple threads and getting conflicting information until you just dive in and figure out by experience the way it all works.

yeah, you can read and take notes endlessly, but it doesn't mean much till you're in there.

I've only got a few more pieces to collect. I can't wait to drive this thing already!!

                              1) You should be fine with the standard mounts. I'm personally running IE's urethane bushings and love them.

                              2) Red 413 will work right away and has now ews. A 506 (the standard S50 dme) might be an option to keep as a possibility, though I dont know whether they all have EWS or not.

                              3) The flywheel will physically mate up to the motor, but I've heard of clearance issues with the e34 oil pan and also issues with the 260 when using the stock dual-mass flywheel. I'm using a single mass S52 flywheel with the S52 clutch, pp, t/o, and an E30 slave cylinder. Works great with no clearance issues anywhere. That's my experience, for what it's worth. Your original 260 linkage will work, but will require a few bends and tweaks to work properly.

                              4) I have no fan, sorry cant help with that question..
