installing oil pressure and water temps gauges --> ??

    Hi,

I have a S50 and I will install a water temp gauge and an oil pressure gauge.

Since its my first gauge installation, I would like to know where is the best place to hook these gauges on the engine and what are the threads of the required fittings?

    Thanks!

I located my temp and pressure senders in the stock locations. My water temp sender is in the head, and my oil temp and pressure are on my oil filter housing.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the fittings are m12x1.5

I bought the UUC oil center with tapped holes for oil temp and senders. I'm still trying to get my oil temp gauge to work properly though, I think I have it grounded wrong.

For water temp I have a Greddy part I got for free that splices in line with a coolant hose. The part has a tapped hole for a sender.

I was thinking that I could run the Ireland engineering cap then add more holes and tap them to whatever I want. 1/4 - 20 / Metric / Whatever.

Like if you made the UUC and IE cap make love. :)

Coolant temp can be off the block, pass side underneath headers.

I wouldn't recommend using the coolant drain plug as a spot to mount your temp sensor. There is not much room behind the headers/manifolds. Once you factor in the height of the sensor and the metric adapter, you are going to be pretty damn close to (if not hitting) the exhaust manifolds. I know I would have not even close to enough room on my motor. If you do use this spot, make sure to use some really good wire so you don't melt the wire on the exhaust.
Also, I'm not sure if that spot would give you the best reading.

If I use the coolant temp sensor on the head, will that cancel the temp reading the ECU. Does the engine computer needs that reading to operate?

also, In the Bentley, they say that the coolant temp sensor for the fuel injection and for the coolant temps gauge are integrated in the same sensor in the later model...

Is the S50 a later model? If not, there should not be any problem to remove the sender.

Check the supplement on real oem for the original sensor.

OBD1 motors (s50/m50/m50tu have two coolant sensors. One is for the ECU and one is for the gauge. Leave the one that is reading for the ECU and swap the other sender for your aftermarket gauge.

OBD2 motors (s52/m52) integrated both coolant sensors together in the same sender. When converting to OBD1 for an e30 swap, you need to drill and tap the head for the other coolant temp sender or find some other place to get a good coolant temp reading.

                        Hope that helps

the dme sensor is blue the gauge is brown what I did was just drill and tap the thermostat housing for the water temp
then I drilled and taped the oil filter housing (part the bolts to the block) for oil temp and for oil psi I got and adapter the goes between the oil psi switch and the filter out let.
looking for a e30m50 swap harness adapter pm me $150 shipped
