haha, think he was talking to me. Don't know 100% yet, have to make some phone calls tomorrow (even though I've been without my personal phone going on two weeks now). Been asking around, found one local that is at a paving company. The owner is just a car enthusiast and happens to have a dyno that he runs dyno days at. Was going to call him, but was hoping to come across someone that actually does it for a living. Don't know how important the operator is when assessing a/f ratio's.

The dyno: Argh! In order to not slander a parts vendor, I am waiting for resolution prior to posting the particulars. It is not TNG that is to blame for the issue - Armen, John, Josh and Matt did a great job with the swap.

I saw that actually, it was for E30 325i's and if I'm not mistaken they are different from the E36 exhausts.

haha. I bought mine from understeer and paid the regular price. Think it was 670 shipped? I just ordered the e36 one, so whatever the e36 m3 one is priced at on their site is what I paid.

Yes, I think you're getting it now. Understeer just tells stromung (or whoever is making them) "hey, I have an e36 stromung order. Build me one." and then they build it, and they or understeer sends it to you. I just picked off of their options from their website. e36 or e30, 325 or 318, etc. Wish I asked for e36 size tubing, e30 style fitment. If they could have done that it would have made things sooo much better. Try it, see what they say. The worst they can say is no, and then you're no worse off than you started ;)


To add to the thread topic... Today I fixed my side skirts, finished putting the splitter on my front lip and installed everything. Also changed up some of the lighting. Hoping to switch my harmonic balancer back to my good one (swapped to original while troubleshooting a while back), and hopefully install my skid plate I bought way back before I ever bought the motor!! :shock:

Tomorrow I should be getting lots of goodies. Crank, cam, and throttle position sensors - hopefully get them installed. Also should be getting a pcv valve and hoses for it, get that in and see where my vacuum issue is at. If it's still there start spraying injector or carb cleaner everywhere and find the damn vacuum leak.

Oh yea, I should also be receiving some wheels. Hopefully I can make them fit! Then next week get on dyno, overnight graphs and dme to bimmerworld. Get everything back and be ready for a track day next monday. Somewhere in there have to fit installing front coils/plates and hopefully get e-brake stuff in there if it's needed for track day tech inspection. busy busy!!!!

and no, reread the post. All stromungs are built after the order is put in. You order an e30 stromung, order goes in, builders make exhaust, exhaust gets shipped to you. It doesn't just get plucked off the shelf and sent to denis the mennis in ny after you order. Thats why it takes a couple weeks after ordering to get it.

With that said, I don't know if they will custom build one for you. Like I said before, if i were to do it again - I would have tried to get them to do a custom one for me. Well, semi-custom anyway. Just e30 shape with e36 size tips/tubing (for all I know the tips and tubing are the same freakin size, I know first hand though the shape and angles of the tips/tubes are way different).

Nope, getrag 260. Drove it to work again today, if it stays the way it was today I can deal with it. Barely noticeable at all. The other whining noise is still there though.

Had to shorten it to even fit. The angle of the tips coming off the muffler made things a real hassle too. If i were to do it all over again, since stromung's are built to order - I would have asked to see if they could have built me an e30 shaped cat-back with e36 size tubing. Live and learn. Now I have to re-work the rear valence to make it look right. Had to cut about a 1/4" of the valence hole to the right, and now I have to fill in the gap to the left of the tips to make it look even. Wanted to get the rear valence detextured and painted anyway so I'll just take care of it all at once over the winter. I'm going to enjoy the damn car for now.

So you had your stromung built to order?? I mean I'm running stock 328is catback and I figured I would just order the E36 Stromung catback from understeer.com

You're using the Getrag 265 right? Aren't they notorious for t/o bearing noise...and isn't it normal for them? Depends on how bad the noise is though.

So they have to shorten the stromung exhaust for it to fit or did you want them to shorten it so that the tips were flush with the valance?

Nope, getrag 260. Drove it to work again today, if it stays the way it was today I can deal with it. Barely noticeable at all. The other whining noise is still there though.

Also, for those of you reading that are in the middle of your swap, don't delete your charcoal canister. Find a way to keep it. With the canister deleted and the hard line capped off, it builds so much pressure! Besides the tank farting everytime I open up the cap to fill it, the pressures are so off that it almost pinches the soft gas line shut (the one that goes from the tank cap to the fuel tank).

they are. none of my e30's have had quiet TO bearings... neither of my 2 zf's have either and they work fine with thausands of track miles on 'em ; /

Tranny is still an issue. On the way home stopped at advance auto, when in the parking spot I heard a new noise... it's my t/o bearing! Great. Looks like I may just be getting a new clutch and t/o bearing. Contemplating going with HD clutch, I kinda liked the feel but I don't know how much I'd like it for daily driving. Decisions decisions...

Shit! If I have any more problems with my car after we do the head swap, I think I'll leave it in North Tulsa with the doors unlocked.

The vaccuum leak sounds like the problems my roommate had with an M50 manifold swap using the KO kit. Hoses didn't always seat right, thus the sucking noise when the throttle was opened and some minor idling issues.

I'm using the bimmerworld kit with obd1 tb and gasket. Will sort that soon. Just ordered new cam position sensor, crank sensor, throttle position sensor, pressure control valve and hoses. Will install everything and then check for vacuum leaks. Hopefully that'll do it.

Also just got my stromung installed. Had a GHETTO custom exhaust shop do it. After it not looking very good AT ALL at first, ended up doing a nice job and used the stromung piping, just chopped up and shortened. Was sad to see them chop up a brand new expensive ass exhaust. Anyway, they had it come out straight the way I wanted, just need to rework the valence a bit to make it look centered. The exhaust is more quiet than stock now! Expecting it to open up after some miles though.
