    Wow I'm excited to see how this build goes! I'm building a very similar engine.
    I just ordered my custom 11:1 87mm bore je pistons today with gapless rings from top end performance. They'll be here in a month or so then I'll drop the block/head off at the shop. I've got sunbelts sitting on the living room floor too! I'm thinking about doing the trm remote tune with the same idea of the baseline tune and having it modified. Maybe matt can chime in, but from looking at their site I would think they'd do it as many times as it takes to get the proper tune. You just got to pay for dyno time. Keep us posted!

      Yea, 260 and S3.73 rear end for now. Will drop to 3.46 or 2.93 if need be later. Sell me the parts I need people!!!

        getting the extensive list of parts together on pelican to purchase.

        so far:

        front caliper repair kit x 2
        front brakes
        front rotor x 2
        rear caliper repair kit x 2
        rear brakes
        rear rotor x 2
        535i green engine mounts x 2
        sachs clutch kit
        pivot pin & spring for t/o bearing release lever
        input shaft seal for tranny
        output shaft seal for tranny
        selector rod seal
        both cover plates and felt ring for pilot bearing if need be
        guibo

        edit: made some executive decisions...
        questions (pardon the ignorance):
        need a new pilot bearing? if so, one that matches the motor or the tranny? I ordered the pilot bearing that matched the tranny and trans internals, hope that was right.
        need a new t/o bearing release fork? do they really go bad?? Decided to re-use the old one, dont see how this can go bad.
        really need a clutch alignment tool? Forgot to add this, really a big pita without it or not so much?


        this shit adds up. think this list only leaves me with an m42 radiator to purchse, motor mount brackets, and possibly a harness adapter if i dont feel like wiring it myself. Then just other half of bimmerworld kit and exhaust. FML.

        starting to consider selling my clean 318is daily i just picked up to fund this :/

          Pilot bearing is to match the input shaft on your tranny, so you are good there.

          The throwout bearing release arms are usually fine unless you see a visual abnormality or problem. Only had to replace one before, and it was bent due to an exploded bearing.

          You do need a clutch alignment tool.

            Mike, I'll just throw this out there. For the time being I'm just going to buy rebuilt calipers from BMA, they are rebuilt and painted silver for $40 + core, but you get your core back when you send your's back.

            To me that is too cheap to fuck with rebuilding.

              Thanks for the heads up. All the brake parts I mentioned are for e30 m3 parts. Still $40ea? Usually price goes way up anytime there is a 'M' in the part description :(

              This car better be worth it!

                Nah, e30 m3 calipers are a bit more coin (few hundred). I have rebuilt a couple sets, and it is worth it.

                  Did not realize they were M calipers! Can you even buy rebuilt M calipers?

                  I would think you'd just have to do it yourself.

                    Was saying this whole project better be worth it. Do I scrap these plans and throw the motor into an e30m3 shell that's nearby? Supposedly it's clean but the guy was too lazy to send me better/clearer pics. Kinda feel wierd though throwing an s52 and not a euro s50 into an M. Keep the alpine, or shoot for the M if it's clean?

Definately had been resprayed, panels dont line up, and now that I think of it, I should have been more pist while i was there since I asked him this shit over the phone and he lied.

                          Headliner was missing, suspension already butchered - had e36 m3 front struts for "bigger brakes y0." I wanted something more original. Would gladly take my alpine 325is for the swap over that.

                          Thanks brother. I would've just sold my daily and thrown an m50 in the alpine and made that my daily. But now I'm more than happy to keep the alpine as the weekend beast :p

                            I've done it without the tool. Just feel around the sides of the clutch/flywheel setup to feel the placement of the clutch disc. There should be three places that will let you feel the disc, so with that info you should be able to get the clutch disc lined up.

                            It is easier to just use the tool though.

                              i don't smoke. i hated that headliner too and the cig burns next to the ashtray.

                                Ha, guess that stuff's been there forever! Yea cig burns bother me too, but all will be taken care of in time. First things first I need to make it something more than a fred flintstone mobile.
