We put together a turbo-destined S52 bottom end this week. The block was bored to ~87mm using Superlite brand (iirc) forged light-weight (about 1/2 compared to stock) 8.5:1 short-skirt pistons with Eagle H-beam connecting rods. The pistons were also coated and had a Total Seal ring set on them. Instead of bolts the entire bottom end now has studs as well (ARP, again iirc). Everything down there handles a LOT more torque than the stock setup (which is already pretty beefy).

We didnt do the top end because his cams needed to be replaced, or at the very least an extreme polish job (although his cam trays were line-bored and honed?). IIRC the top end is mostly stock, using the OBD-1 manifold.

He's running Tec 3R for management. Something like that anyway, I'm not terribly familiar with that management. The setup doesnt have to be OBD-2 compliant because he has the car registered in SC, which doesnt require anything other than maybe a safety inspection on cars. He's planning to initially run 1 bar, tune it for that, and then up the boost to 1.4 bar.

I cant wait to see how long the skinny cylinder walls handle it, but it was done as the customer requested it.. He's aware of the possibility of that, but he said he just had the S52 around to mess with. If this blows he plans to do the same with a 2.8.

Cool motor though, I should do that for my E30.

yeah i bought a s52 motor off of bavrecycling and bought a turbo kit off of ebay for the piping and a garret gt35r is on the way as we speak. but how much did you wind up spending on the engine management system?
