    e30 s50 swapped

just completed an s50 swap. and have a question.
95 s50 w/ mated m3 trans, stock clutch and slave
into 92 325ic. problem is clutch barely dissengages.
have to push pedal hard to floor to be able shift
somewhat smoothly. clutch engages right off floor.

    any ideas? common problem?

Did you use the e36 slave or e30? You have to use the e36 and did you bleed it right?

used the e36 slave. I tried a few different ways
of bleeding. vacumn, gravity and holding down
the pedal at half travel and bleeding.
      any suggestions?

I have the same problem with my clutch set up I believe its because the zf slave is a different size boar thus more travel is needed in the master cylinder in order to compensate for the size differences.
        I wounder if a 325 slave would work? or a e36 master?

Take the slave out and psuh the rod in while the bleeder is open then close it and repeat. I think that is what I did.

my stop is adjusted all the way down allready.
the amount of travel in the pedal is 1" before
pressure. some of that is play in the pin, but
            that is only about 3/16ths.

im running an s52 that i bought with the accompanying trans and slave cylinder. the clutch engages noticeably closer to the floor as you are describing, but i have no problems at all with it while shifting or driving. any time i have replaced a slave cylinder with the swapped setup or even when i had the stock getrag, i just fill up the reservoir and pump the pedal by hand for a few minutes. then when theres enough pressure for the pedal to return by itself just pump it with your foot of course. you can do this and watch all the little air bubbles rise to the top of the reservoir as your pedal gets nice and stiff. i dont know why so many people have trouble bleeding the slave on these cars.

I used the m3 one. the engine and trans complete
                  were out of a 95 m3

the car is very drivable, but I am concerned about syncro
wear if it is not released all the way.

Did you try taking it out and bleeding it the way I told you by hand?

                      That worked for me.

I have to disconnect the line to remove it.
the line is not long enough to get the slave
                        out.

well ive been thinking about this issue because id like to have a clutch that engages at a normal pedal height again. looking at realoem the 325i e36 slave is listed as being a different part number than the m3 e36. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...59&hg=21&fg=10 vs. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...59&hg=21&fg=10. i have read that the 2 are interchangeable but give a different pedal feel, as some m3 owners switch to a single mass flywheel clutch kit and swap the slave to return the original pedal stiffness. so obviously this would probably make my pedal stiffer, which i dont really want because its already pretty stiff. but if it remedies the low pedal engagement then im willing to put up with it. so does anybody have experience swapping them out and noticing any change in the clutch pedal engagement height?
