    Wiring help please..

Ok So here is the deal. I want to wire my M20 engine side plug directly to my M50 harness. My car is a 90 325is with air bag and abs, but both have been removed.
All I know about the M50 harness is that it came from an automatic vanos E36 M50.

Me and Unearth078 have searched for the past hour for info on wiring this up but when we find wiring info half the wires dont match my C101 plug.
So here is a list of my wire and the pin numbers. The only thing I cant figure out is where the two Brown W/Grey stripe wires go because the C101 was cut off when I got the harness.

So if someone would be kind enough to put the numbers next to the pins of where I need to plug them into my M20 engine side plug that would be amazing. :-D

Ok, So I found a chart with what pins go where. But the colors on that chart dont match the colors that I have. Can someone please double check it?? I will add to the chart if I find any more info on the colors that are not listed. I dont feen safe wiring shit up if the colors on the charts I found dont match.

Ah, So I pretty much got it right other then the colors on the E36 harness not matching with the E36 chart I found.
I dont need an adapter. Im going to the dealer today to order a C101 plug to splice onto my harness. They are like 16.00 and .80 for each pin.
        Thanks for the offer though.

IIRC the harness/pins werent the expensive part, there is a special bmw only tool that is used to mate the pins/wires.

Ah yes, here is what i was thinking about:

I was || this close to ordering a wiring adapter from them, but doing Ben's has convinced me that I can do it myself cleaner and better, with the connections I have.

Out of respect for them, you guys are on your own for part numbers. But I will tell you that the tool set to get the pins out of the connectors is $867.50 and the tool set to crimp and install the pins onto the wires is $652.50.

The only reliable way to do your pinouts is to use the ETK.

It has colors, pins, where the wire is from and where it is going, and if it's ground/power/switched power/signal/etc...

I did it that way and posted my results here. Everyone said it looks good. Wired it up, and it was wrong. I messed up on one of the wires and nobody caught it.

Don't trust anybody else, do it yourself and triple check it.

I had an 87 325is that I put an 89 engine into. Everyone here said it will just connect right up, the c101's are the same. The harness melted, because it does NOT connect right up. Everyone said the x20's are the same too. I don't trust that either, obviously...

I looked through that link ^^^ I will have to print stuff out. I hate running back and forth between the comp and wiring harness. I just need to find someone with a printer.
I just removed all of my automatic wiring harness last night. People made it seem harder then what it was.

I did mine... it's not so bad... check some of the articles... akg has a wiring diagram on there... at least it might help... also, the e36 harnesses are slightly different depending on the options on the car...

at least it's a starting point, don't take it for 100%, some of it was not correct... I'll see if I can find my charts... check some of the threads I have asking about wiring on the tech, you'll find the stuff for the m50 and early style e30.

Have you figured this out yet? I see a few problems with your chart. Rpm and road speed are mixed up and pin 18 should be hooked up to pin 18.

What other numbers I have mixed?

haha dude you're gonna light something on fire just randomly switching wires from what various people say. He's right, but you really need to look at the schematics. It's the only way to do this. It tells you EVERYTHING you need to know and then some. Wire color, connector, pin # on the connector, body side use, engine side use, whether its ground, power, switched power, signal, etc....

Just go through and make a complete chart for the c101 and x20, then it's simply just matching up the wires based one use. It shouldn't take more then a few hours.

I'm telling you, I went off of info on this forum for an m20 swap, and I melted a harness. Went off of info on this forum for an m50 swap, and the car wouldn't start. Both times everyone told me that the wiring was right. Well, wrong. Half the charts floating around on this forum that you see when you search for wiring info are wrong.

So is there no such thing as a "universal harness" for these swaps. I get the impression that there are so many harness variables that the only way to do it properly is pin out your own harness for you model and year.
