So I am revisiting this thread because I'm thinking about changing my pusher fan.

After living with it for one year I have come to the conclusion that its just way too fucking loud. It's pretty embarrassing actually...people walk by and stare! LOL.

So here's what I'm looking at:

        Perma-Cool #771-19115 - 2950 CFM:

        FFD16 - 3000 CFM

I'm pretty confident that I can the perma-cool fan but I really like this FFD fan since I already have the 12 on the radiator side.

Also I've realized that with the A/C the fan just doesn't cut it when I'm sitting in traffic for more than 15min... we're talking stand-still shit here. Any thoughts? Do you guys think I have any more options?

Have you ever thought of stepping down the voltage the fan receives to step down the fan speed a little bit? It should cut down on noise, the bad ass thermaltake fans i have in my PC are quiet as can be at about 80% of what they are capable of, but sound like a tornado at 100%.

As far as your A/C goes. 15 min in standstill traffic in hot weather the stock fan would have a hard time keeping up, and pushers dont work as well as pullers, so i really doubt that is going to help you much.

The Perma-Cool is loud, I used to run that one. It's a great fan, but I went through two fans because it had no fan shroud. I ran the 16" version up front, and something flew through the top valence slit, broke the fan blade, and fucked the motor. This happened a second time, so i got a SPAL with a shroud.

I'd say get the FFD because of the shroud alone. Great CFM rating for that size fan.

I haven't tried that simply b/c I have no idea how to LOL. Catch me on AIM, would love to hear how to do it. Also, the problem is that I'm stuck with a pusher setup b/c the fan needs to be in front of the condenser otherwise its not going to cool it. The fan that I have now doesn't really have any problems keeping the car cool in traffic but its just too loud. Another thing is that I had a/c in the car for just ONE day...everything leaked out by the following morning (which is something that I will address before the heat :D).

Werd man, the first summer was like that for me...and I didn't have a/c so I would be forced to turn the bloody heat on! :curse:

You know, this was my MAIN concern with that fan...not having a fan shroud would make me incredibly paranoid about random things bouncing of the ground and at the fan. But you didn't have any issues when you turned the A/C in the heat right?

Gotta take some measurements to see if the FFD fan will fit in front of the condenser b/c I really like my 12" behind the radiator.

Thanks for the feedback guys

I chose this particular setup because I will be installing A/C and from what I've seen, few fan's are narrow enough to fit behind the radiator. I wanted to find something that would obviously fit and withstand the heat while sitting in traffic.

FF Dynamics makes some seriously high quality fans, I read about them on several Muscle car forums. I ended up purchasing their 12" fan.

                    http://ffdynamics.com/FFD12B.html - setup as a puller.

                    Rated at 1500 CFM
Was going to order one of these fans but i'm not seeing where it defines pull/push. Did it include those black mounting tabs?

I think you have a blown fuse? You said the one wired to the stock wiring doesnt come on unless you sit in traffic but when you have the A/C on it should kick the fan on as well. High speed!

I have a 16" Zirgo fan in the engine bay for my supercharged m42 and its not enough at slow speeds. It moves a shit ton of air so I dont know how this is possible

I have a 92 vert s50 with clutch fan and was stuck in traffic
on a 90+ day the gauge went just over the middle enough
to see there is a white line there and that was it.
I am running the stock 325I radiator.

Fan can be setup as either or.

No blown fuses here, the smaller fan kicks on a couple of ticks past 1/4 mark. High speed aux fan will kick on a couple of ticks past the 1/2 mark.

I recently purchased FFd 16" fan and it rocks. Its MUCH quieter than my 16" Spal and still does the job of keeping the car cool.

WOW, that is just too close for comfort there!! If it works it works I guess?!

So you turn the fan blade around? Easy to do?

Well i received my ffd12 today and put it in for a test fit. I set the orientation just as you had it, with the flat side of the fan at the top and bottom.

It is extremely close to the water pump fan clutch threads. I think i may be able to pull the radiator towards the front of the car a few mm with some heavy duty zip ties and possibly shave down the threads on the water pump just for peace of mind.

Other than that it looks like a decent fan, and you can't beat a lifetime warranty i guess!
