Ok having done two swaps this is bugging me

I recently scrapped my old 87 swapped car. It had a ZF transmission and the car I swapped it into was another 87 and I kept the Getrag 260 with it's starter and flywheel. It's single mass and I shaved the required amount and shimmed it properly.

Turn the key it just spins the starter but at the moment I am unsure if it has a bad solenoid or if the gear is going past the flywheel and not spinning the engine.

    Any thoughts.

The flywheel did not have enough material removed from the engine side so it was rubbing and the Splash sheild was vibrating due to lack of the small 8mm bolt was not tight. Metal to metal makes odd vibrations so I assumed it was not working properly even thou the teeth never showed signs of abuse.

Correct, reason why I'm baffled. The are from the same car. They are from the same car. And I don't fell like yanking it.

Sounds like a stuck starter, turn the key forward and tap the starter with a hammer.

What do you mean when you say you "shimmed" the flywheel?

Put the ring where the bolts go Brew. I have forgotten what that thing is called. Been beating my head as I'm frustrated. I have too many projects going this summer and not enough time to complete them.

ARG. Just want this one out of my driveway. It's tieing up a space.

325i getrag starter to 325i single mass flywheel is like a no brainer...wtf.

Shimmed the flywheel? Where did you put the shims?

I'd measure the depth from where the starter mounts to the ring gear.

And then measure the reach of the starter when its pinion is pushed out.

Narrow this down first then go from there.

That spacer isn't between the flywheel and the crank is it? If so, there's your problem.

No, not a rookie just beating my head cause working the past month on three cars with limited time and flying too much so leaves me limited time to get stuff done.

Yeah Cam I'll check that I haven't been thining all that clearly lately it's as if my common sense has drooled out of my ears.

I didnt think the flywheel needed shimming.

Yeah didn't even work on it today. Took a breather. When I get again I'll look at it.
