This might be a good option for dedicated track/autox cars where extra fan clearance is nice, I would like to see pictures / link with more info as well. Thanks

This radiator installation has NO effect on hood attachment. No attachment points for hinges, stops, guides are effected. I elected to use a fiberglass hood, not forced to. (also the hood is not attached with pins but with 1/4 turn fasteners)
Further this method was not selected because it was "cheap". I like electric fans for supplemental cooling but not primary. I've never had a mechanical fan fail, and if they do they typically fail by locking and still provide cooling. Haters will say "what if the fan belt breaks", well if you neglect periodic maintenace then the fan belt breakage issue will only be one of many problems you will have. Also in an electric fan only setup you run the same risk, no coolant circulation.
I have had electric fans and related sensors fail. I also find they don't cool as effectively as a good mechanical setup. Typically the shrouds that come with them don't fit well (unless the radiator and shroud is sold as one unit) and the fans are loud.
But this is only my experience/opinon. Whatever makes you happy.Last edited by redmist; 08-19-2009, 04:38 AM.DD -1991 318is panda
