Don't let the secret out.I dont have any pics of what I did to the manifolds but if you are looking at the surface on the manifolds that mounts to the cylinder head you should see the gaps I'm talking about. You just have to lay a small bead where it opens up to the runners. You can buy o2 sensor plugs that will go in the o2 sensor holes or weld them also. Clearance is tight no matter what manifold you use. I had a couple custom downpipes made at a local muffler shop and there is all kinds of clearance now. I can even fit the heatsheild that goes over the control arm bushing.
Since you have no connector you must go through the ETMs found here http://www.wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm and check every page for the c101 and x20 connectors. Its time consuming and teidious but my car started on the first try and has had very few issues I couldn't figure out. Plus you become very familiar with your cars wiring, which makes troubleshooting a million times easier. You can't just rely on what people on the forums say. Sometimes they have no clue what they are talking about. (like putting the center support bearing on backwards).Leave a comment:

apexhead do you have a picture by any chance of exactly what you did? Also, did they clear the subframe without cutting and grinding? I am looking into the wiring right now...it's too late to use pin numbers because the e36 side connector is already cut off.
I know color isn't the best way to go, but in any case I used this diagram:

You must weld up the gaps in the manifold where it bolts to the motor and weld or plug the extra o2 ports. I am using the same headers and they work great.Leave a comment:

I just finished doing a similar swap. I put a vanos m50 into a 91 318is. I did not do my wiring by paying attention to wire color but rather went through the electrical troubleshooting manuals and found pin numbers. I hooked up pin 23 on the e36 side to pin 5 on the e30 side for the oil pressure light and it works fine. The SI reset should be pin 19 on the e36 side. If you are having any trouble don't hesitate to ask. Hope this helps.Leave a comment:

Also, I want to get the raceland e36 headers (obd2) that have the air injection ports on the manifolds. I like the long tubes but they have flanges already welded on so it will save time and money unlike the "ebay ss reps" that have no flange welded on. Is it ok to run the raceland obd2 headers and just put bolts in the air injection holes?Leave a comment:

Used the VHT wrinkle black, very nice product although takes longer than regular paint to dry. Here is close to the final look (although I would prefer an s50 cover)

I picked up some various parts/ bits from bmw today, have some assembly to do tomorrow. I have 95% of the wiring done, however using the 318is m50 wiring diagram on the site here there are two problems:
1. the brown/green wire e30 side that goes to brown/green wire e36 side for "oil pressure switch". I have a brown/yellow wire, but NO brown/green wire on the e36 side.
2. the white/blue wire e30 side that goes to white/green wire e36 side for "SI reset" is non existent on the E36 side, there is no white/green wire.
The engine is a 1992 E36 non-vanos motor w/auto trans harness (with the auto bits completely removed).
Any help would be grand.

Oh yeah if anyone cares it's duplicolor engine paint, semi-gloss black. Purple was a close second.Leave a comment:

Yeah the brakes are from a 99 porsche 911 996, I'm working on it right now with a 305mm (12'') rotor from a Seat Cupra R w/ custom mount brackets.
Cleaned up the block and painted it, removed the 3er oil pan and pickup and baffle and broke off the pick up tube bracket (very easy) so as to avoid removing a main bearing cap.
Before:

After:

I couldn't put the oil pan on yet because I need a new gasket for the pickup tube... crap.Leave a comment:

If you don't use those brakes let me know. I may buy them for my 944...Leave a comment:

This is getting expensive! I picked these up today time will tell if I can use them or not

Wiring is 90% done, cleaned the block and painting it tomorrow... going to swap the oil pan now.
