Overheated!!!!

sometimes the plastic impellers implode... did on my brothers e36, not sure how bad it leaked though. Think it just overheated.

Well, I am very curious to find out if this damn part is plastic. Good thing is that my car didnt overheat. But the coolant just waterfalled out. My oil pan looked like a showerhead!

It shouldnt have been loosing that much coolant from the weep hole on the water pump.. I wonder if the impeller shaft broke or something. Post up pictures when you get it out!

I would highly recommend installing the Stewart high-performance metal impeller water pump that Turner carries (as well as others).

Damn Ryan. You must be the nicest guy on this planet. When the chips fell into place, I didnt even buy your motor and you are still helping me out! I will def put pics up because I am expecting to find it mutilated. Literally, water fell out as if I pulledth pump with coolant still in the system.

^^It's not a problem at all, I havent pushed the sale of that thing a bit. I've just tossed it out there to a couple people who are potentially seriously interested. I'm still driving the car around, and without the motor it would be hard to do that :). Good luck getting this one buttoned up though. I'm sure you've already found out that they are a blast.

Ok, back to the drawing board. Put in a BRAND NEW water pump and thermostat and still leaking. What I think I did is replace a perfectly good water pump, and its still leaking from the same place. The reason it poured out like crazy that day is because it was a hot day. Any ideas?

edit: Coolant drops even if the car is shut off.

Did you pull the thermostat housing when you pulled the pump. They are notorious for leaking if not properly installed.

Use a flashlight and a mirror to follow the coolant up as high as you can. You should be able to visually see the coolant leaking from somewhere if it's leaking that bad.

I did. How do you properly install? I basically just snapped it back in and tightened the bolts.

Grinil, sorry to hear about all of this. I did not have the problem when I was driving the car. Are you sure there is nothing loose? Did you call Bryson? I wish I could be of some more help but I dont know much. Maybe try pressure testing the cooling system?

Just the O ring goes bad. And there you have it.

At least the water pumps dont sieze in the block and break into 2.

Update: It ended up being a bad radiator cap. I guess insufficient pressure, or too much pressure perhaps, caused a leak from another point in the engine. I replaced the cap and no more leak. I have been driving for over a month now and it has been fine until yesterday the same issue started. There is NO WAY the new radiator cap has gone bad. Any ideas as to how this leak may have begun again. I found no leaking from the radiator or hoses, water pump and rad cap is new.
