wondering how well it works with the 24v setup with stock s50 midpipes. how's the performance? how's the fit? and how does it sound?

The e30 M3 exhaust will have to be modified a fair bit to fit a non-M, enough to make it not particularly worth it IMO. If you can get an exhaust cheaply, then you should be fine. Esssentially, you're paying for a nice dual 48mm - 50mm muffler.
If you were to fit the muffler in the stock E30 M3 location, the tips will poke WAY out and only one of the stock E30 muffler straps could be used.
If you were to try to reduce this distance by setting it in closer to the front of the car and utilizing the front muffler strap, you could possibly run into issues clearing the left halfshaft.

The E30 M3 Header secondaries are larger in internal diameter than the dual wall OBD 2 M3 pipe.

hmm, welding hanging tabs to the exhaust to hang at stock location shouldn't be a problem. I guess the tips would stick out more cuz they're longer. but will the tips stick out of the rear valence cutout centered? or will I have to cut the tips and re-weld them at an angle like other e36 exhausts?
performance wise, will the e30 m3 muffler be restrictive for the s52?
I want a sporty note to the exhaust, definitely nothing obnoxious. I had an e30 m3 with stock s14 and stock exhaust before and it was nice. It was sporty loud, a bit raspy though, but not quite obnoxious. I'm wondering if the s52 mated to this will be even louder, though the stock s50 midpipes do have resonators on them vs stock s14 midpipes.
