Hi guys,
I recently bought an 87 320 with an M50B25 swapped in. The swap is well done, the guy who did it knows lots about these swaps and used to have an E36 M3 3.0 in there.
My problem is that when I drove on the highway at 70+ mph, the temp on the gauge is under the halway mark even though it had warmed up to half way before the highway. I didn't have heat in the cabin until I got into trafic and the guage temp went up.
So I read lots of threads here and decided to change the thermostat and bleed the system. I bout an 88C tstat, but the old one was 80C, decided to change it anyways. Now the engine heats up to halfway faster at idle, but goes over halfway, up to the next line (3/4?) but doesn't go near the red line. I don't like this temp range, but i'm not sure how accurate the gauge is. It didn't solve the cabin temp, and on the highway, the gauge shows a tiny bit over halfway, then rises a bit in the city. I did find an interesting thing though - if I turn the temp circle all the way to Cold for a few seconds, then turn to Hot, it does heat, but only for about ten seconds then goes luke warm. This leads me to think there may be a duovalve like in my Merc. They cause various cabin temp problems. Do you think I have one in there somewhere? Could this be causing it? Should I put the 80C tstat back?
The radiator is a Behr M435 (hope I got those numbers right), it has a two speed aux fan, no viscous fan.
