When you start pulling off cooling components you can find some white powdery oxidization on the metal parts. The goo is probably that as well as dirt and everything else that works its way into your system over time.
It doesn't look like the right color for oil/coolant to me, and you'd have to have a lot of oil in your coolant anyway, otherwise, it'd mostly just float on the surface.
Did you have antifreeze in there too? Or just water?
There must be antifreeze, because I live in a cold country. However, As written, I bought the car 6 month ago, so I don'y know what the last owner had put. It was blue, first time I see car with antifreeze that color!
