I am doing an M52 tu conversion to my e30. I am using the stock ECU (MS42) and stock engine wiring harness. Th engine is from an early 2000 e46 and is OBD 1 with the round 20 pin data link connector. I live in Australia and OBD 2 did not commence here until mid 2000.
My e30 instrument panel does not have OBC and has clock only although I will probably replace the clock with OBD.
I am looking for some help in connecting ECU signals to the e30 instrument panel, namely engine speed input, and fuel rate. From what I can make out, these signals are on the e46 MS42 CAN bus.
Are these signals available individually from MS42? If not is there a module available that will convert the CAN bus signals so that I can connect them to KL1 and KL11 on the e30 Instrument cluster?
I will also need to do some sort of interface to the e30 Oil pressure warning light. The MS 42 has an oil pressure switch connected to pin 26 on MS 42 module 3 connector and the oil pressure switch is normally open as opposed to the e30 normally closed. Will the MS 42 oil pressure switch contact 26 drive a low power relay to interface with the e30 instrument cluster or is there another way of doing it.
For the temperature guage I have installed an e30 sensor into the M52TU head and connected it directly to the e30 instrument cluster, so I do not see any problems with this.
Thanks for any help and advice.
