Clutch Weirdness - Slave Cylinder not long enough??

So, after pulling the ZF back off to fix the 5th gear detent problem that I discovered immediately after installing it the first time, I have discovered that the slave does not appear to be long enough to disengage the clutch. Needless to say, that's not ideal.

(And by "discovered," I mean "exploded the slave in the bellhousing." Fishing all that crap out was fun.)

Clearly, I need to pull the transmission (again) and fish around, but does anyone have any ideas?

clutch/flywheel combo?

also are you using the ZF slave or the G260 slave? im pretty sure you NEED to use the ZF slave no matter the flywheel/clutch combo.

Slave needs to match the transmission.

I have three ZF slaves sitting here.

The clutch is from a '95 M3. New throwout bearing.

The slave doesn't hit the throwout fork/pivot arm until it's just a third of an inch off of the mounting surface. I remember thinking that the slave seemed unusually easy to squeeze on - guess I know why.

Ah. I think I know what it is.

It's got the fork out of an E46 328Ci in it. I guess I need to swap that out, given that they are different part numbers.

The transmission is out of a 328. It matches the transmission. What it doesn't match is the clutch.
