Never really thought hooking up fuel lines would be that hard.

with my brothers helping hand we did it in one day. running m20 out in the morning and
s50 with modifying harness back in later that day and running that night. this was about my 7-8 swap though. making clean wiring is the longest process to look correct when finished by far.
ps if anyone is in vegas and needs some beer and a helping hand i'm around.

IMHO, the part of a swap that really eats time is all the other crap you discover while you're in there. My actual engine swap has about 4 days in it, or 24 hours, and it's done aside from the air filter and mounting the ECU. Unfortunately, it took from last summer to get to thus point.

If the car is perfect, or if you don't succumb to whilei'minthere syndrome, the swap needn't take long.

thats really the key, sure you could just throw the DME on the sometimes battery tray thing, or just rest it in the glovebox... sure you can just leave the big tangle mess of wires wherever they lay, sure you could throw a dirty and messy M50 with no serving done in....

To do a clean install there is a lot of little extras that no one really mentions in the swap posts... like for example mounting my DME properly took me an entire day(E34 harness was not long enough) and i also had to buy the nessecary parts to do it(Early model FTW)

It took me and a co-worker 16 hours to do a complete swap back in 2004, before there was any knowledge base outside of the McHenry crew. We all were still using custom throttle cable brackets and 90 degree pipe fitting for the coolant lines.
Nowadays, you can pretty much buy everything ahead of time, there are no surprises anymore.

ive seen the cleanest swap EVER @ TNG finished in like a friday/saturday with Air conditioning, m3 harness covers, custom tranny brace, custom exhaust, custom NO adapter harness, ect... the whole shop was busy so i wouldn't say that they were just working on the swap.. speed isn't everything.

I would have to say doing the exhaust is the hardest part for me since I have no prior welding experience. Using m52 manifolds and the section by the engine mount arm is a bitch.

damm anything under a week is Tits!!

took me 1.5months to take everything from my old chassis into my new one + 5-lug swap. working everyday atleast 4hours and up to 11-12hours on the weekends. All BY MYSELF.

Remove, order parts, Rebuild, Reinstall, Restart 3weeks... not a full swap though.
                              No more e30s for me.

                                4 years. woot.

Moving to Indy for a job in a couple of weeks - hopefully they have some good BMW shops there to help me get the rest of the car finished.
