    s50 shortblock

i have a s50 shortblock I picked up yesterday. I haven't inspected it yet, but I am assuming everything on the bottom is good. it blew a head gasket before it was pulled.

so i have a block, pistons, rods and crank.

Is any of this stuff useful? I did a quick search and it looks like the rods are lighter than the M20 rods, the crank would make some sort of a stroker if installed in a M20

    pistons good for anything?

Would i be better off just finding a head for this motor and buying some cams and making a complete motor out of it, or parting it out?

i don't have a spare e30 to swap this into right now. I have a 91 with a M30B35 in it I am about to have running, but after that I will be looking for something fun to build.

    ideas?

You'd be better off with an M52B25 bottom end. Better rod ratio.

I believe you can use the crank for an M20, but you'll need a crank spacer. If you have the cash for it, I guess you could always just get a head and go straight for sunbelts...

          I would do that ^

The M20 head flows HORRIBLY compared to the 24V.

there is a head and a M50 intake mani at the local pick and pull
i could grab all the electronics too.
Did they ever get the sunbelts working right? When I built my S52 about 4 years ago they were having hell with them. No one could make them run right.

I went with schricks in my S52 instead. best mod i ever did to that car. Even if it was just for the sound!

I know of a few people using sunbelts in builds, now whether they actually got them running well yet I'm not sure of. As I recall they typically run a bit more aggressive of a profile when compared to their respective schrick counterparts.
