Why not just mandle it?
Who has dropped a trans (G260) out of a DOHC E30?

You don't have a friend who can lend you some garage space for a few hours? Seriously? There are TONS of E30 guys in the SB area. I'm sure there is someone who can give you a proper work space. Hell, if you had posted a thread asking, you could have come to my house. I am more than willing to lend a hand.
Making a habit of doing things the right way when it's a possibility is a good thing to do. Now when you HAVE to jerry rig something, it's not a bad skill to possess, but you shouldn't just do that to EVERYTHING.
If your car wasn't already up on jackstands in some parking lot in SB, I'd say come to my house in the SFV and use my hoist.
I wouldn't risk lifting the engine by the oil pan EVER. But that's just me.1987 BMW 325is | Frankenmotor S50 | Supersprint Replica Headers | K&N Intake | Gutted Stock Midpipe | Zimmermann Rotors | Stainless Brake Lines | Porterfield Racing PadsComment

All the time you've spent posting, you couldve gotten it figured out already. Deep breath, grab it by the balls, and just rip it out.-Jay

I'm 24 dude, my friends are in the same boat that I am. Even if they did have access to a garage, a) how am I going to get the car there with a AAA 7 mile tow, and b) am I really going to ask my friend to leave my torn-apart car in his garage or by his house for a week or two while I get the flywheel resurfaced, or to find a new bolt that I stripped? No. I'd rather take care of it myself, asking only for what I need. Call me self-reliant.You don't have a friend who can lend you some garage space for a few hours? Seriously? And you can call it jerry-rigging, but as long as the end result is the same (new clutch and trans), who cares? Thanks for the offer, but Woodland hills is a good 75 miles away from me, which further illustrates my point.paint sucksComment

Ha. Easier said than done my friend. Plus, I've been sick for a day or two. Every time I go back out there I have to re-raise the car, put it on jackstands, drop the subframe, do my stuff, then before I leave, put the front end back together and lower it again for risk of it getting towed. So, instead of blindly prying and pulling with everything I've got and getting nowhere, I'm gathering some ideas to make it possible.paint sucksComment

Dont worry about it. Jack it up by the oil pan. Just use a block of wood to spread the load. This is what we did when we pulled the 260 from my brothers car after the swap (he forgot to install the pilot bearing!) Did not lower the subframe or anything...

Wonder if they'd start squeaking if you just put a car cover over it. Either way, you should have it out next time around.Ha. Easier said than done my friend. Plus, I've been sick for a day or two. Trust me, it'll work fine and wont hurt your pan a bit unless you go crazy with it. When jacking up the front of the motor by the oil pan it will move freely until it starts to bind somewhere or torque hard against the motor mounts. That's when the pressure gets to a point that could potentially be detrimental to the oil pan, and of course you don't want to go any farther. You will feel it when it starts to get tough to jack it up. You will have plenty of room long before you run into a bind issue at the front end.
I've done this for years and never once broken an oil pan. I wouldn't have even mentioned it or recommended it at all if there was even a decent chance of it busting the pan. I'd feel terrible if something happened as a result of my suggestion, but in this case you'll be fine.Comment
