So does this mean the m3 crank can't be fitted to the m50 without conrod/pistons/bore changes?

I'm guessing I'd be better off simply obtaining a m3 block then and fitting the rest of the parts to that? (I can get a complete front cut of a 525i for about $1800us for all the other bits required for conversion)

24's are only needed on larger displacement motors with more aggressive than stock (M3) cams.
i'm just basing off what aa told me their chip was setup for. That being said, i'm sure they're just over killing it and tuning the injectors down so they arent working at max efficiency... as you know=bad.

My friend sitting right next to me has an M3 head on his '93 325i, Active Autowerke setup his software...he's using stock injectors, and this motor turns 7500 rpm. :dot:

sorry my dad isnt a professional bmw engine rebuilder and i dont know everything and I have to base alot of my knowledge off of emails with random people in shops... i bet i could dig up the email and show you the dyno chart they sent me (which states mods [catless downpipe, high flow exhaust, m3 cams, obd-II manifold, 24/lb hour injectors.])

            Dear Sir,
I think we have the perfect chip for you, we just finished a track car that runs on pump gas with this identical set up.
            This car had
            1) 2.5L M50 motor
            2) M3 cams
            3) 24# injectors
            4) stk HFM , no need for the big one on the 2.5L motor
            5) OBDII exhaust manifolds, no cats, free flow rear muffler.

we had 35 more rear wheel HP over a stk 325i.Power is very close to a stock M3

Cost of the chip is $399 + shipping.

            Regards
            Karl Hugh
            Active Autowerke

I just noted that a friend had a different experience with AA. What were the numbers on the setup? Can you post the dyno.

              And take a chill pill[/i]

                Great. Those are good numbers.

Thanks for posting the dyno. Mi amigo's 325i put down very similar numbers with AA software, but like I mentioned, Karl set it up for stock injectors.

The M3 engines you guys are all referring to are the US spec S50 engines yeah? Our M3s here in Oz had the euro spec M3 engines, not the glorified M50s that you guys had :D I think it would be quite hard to find US spec stuff over here.

Yes, we refer to the single-throttle body M50/S50. The European motors are nice, I'd love to take one through its paces. I don't think they're ideal for the type of swap we're talking about though.

Besides, simple bolt-on work can get the US motors in near Euro territory. :D

M3 short blocks can be had for a few hundred, maybe 5-600. More for a 3.2

                            places to check are:
                            roadfly
                            dtmpower.net
                            turner motorsport classifieds

I know there is one at TMS classifieds for 1000, it needs a rebuild (including a new valve/piston on cyl 6.

you can stack some gaskets and have the block and head o-ringed to keep things tight. The VF22 turbo from a wrx sti goes for around 500 andis capable of 25psi although a stock motor wouldnt take that I would add a custom header and a tial 46mm wastegate along with some 3inch pipe and intercooler on mild boost 9-12 lbs and a boost controller. That setup would get you over 260hp and you could do if for around 2k and have a lot of room to play with.

there is one thing that i dont like about turbos though they make your car sound like a leaf blower.
