    Locking the S52 @ TDC

I have an s52 that I recently swapped and I will be putting an MLS Head Gasket on it soon and I have been reading up on how to R&R the Head Gasket. Pelican's Atricle call for a TDC locking tool.

    See Fig.4
    http://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/tech...ead-Gasket.htm

I was wondering though, that since I have the Getrag 260 and M20 single mass flywheel will this tool work or will I have to hold the motor at TDC some other way?

You will need some other method.

Set the crank to TDC by the marks on the crank/timing case. Remove the crank hub pulley. Use a longer M8 bolt in the top most hub bolt hole. Tighten it finger tight until it hits the timing chain case. Add 1/4 turn.

        Crank is now locked.

Yes cam locks are needed. If you have the cam's locked in place and those timing cover marks line up your good to go.

Ask your regional forum on bimmerforums if anybody has a set you could borrow. If you're new/not on there offer to pay up front and bring a case of beer when you return them and get your money back. I'm sure somebody semi-local has a set
