    Pin 81 on 413 ECU

    Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone knew what color wire pin 81 (Automatic transmission range switch) on the m50tu ecu is. My understanding is that pin needs power to or my car will not start since the engine harness is from an automatic. Is there a better way i can get power to this pin? Is there a corresponding pin on the x20?

there should be but its best to just take your continuity meter and find out for yourself which X20 pin it is. By the time you troll throught a million threads to find what pin it is you could find out in 5 minutes, and you KNOW its correct.

i have NEVER had to power any automatic related wires on my swaps and they have all started the first time...

I've been playing with pins 82 & 83 to see if I can get them to work in a traction control capacity but no luck.

Thanks guys. I wasn't sure if the ECU needs power to that pin since if the harness is from an automatic that pin connects to an automatic transmission range switch which gets power from the distribution box somewhere (hot in run and start). In the m/t harnesses the same pin is connected directly to the main relay power pin if i'm reading the diagram correctly. Just wasn't sure if the car would start if it's not getting a 'signal' from the transmission.

Starting the swap tonight so i just wanted to mark that wire in case I end up needing it.

Finally realized that the x20 is considered a splice connector which is why there is no pinout for it in the ETK. Call me crazy but i have been enjoying looking through it and figuring out the wiring. My harness is done, fingers crossed.

And for reference, the wire I was talking about (pin 81 on the ECU) is pin 10 on the x20 connector. I'll post here if I ended up needing to have it plugged in to run. Although form the looks of it (and from what dominic says), it won't be needed.

He's wired many of these(including mine), so I would trust what he says.

It's not true, it doesn't need power. I believe it's only true is you keep the auto harness wiring in. And even then I think the auto ecu would have to be hooked up.
