What am I getting myself into

So I blew the motor in my '87 325is a while back, and have been thinking about a m50 swap. One of my friends is head mechanic at an autobody shop right by my house and he happens to owe me a big favor. We made a deal that he'd give me one of the 3 m52's he has down there and the two of us would drop it in. We pretty much plan on putting a pallet jack under the car, drop the front subframe, trans brace, brake lines and front suspension and lifting the car over it. The only thing he said he doesn't want to do is wiring, but luckily all 3 motors have full harnesses. So what does that leave for me, is it just tach signal and oil level? One other thing that I didn't quite get is which flywheel to use if using a g260, I'm assuming an m20 flywheel?

It leaves you with either a full EWS swap or an OBDI conversion.

Can't I just bypass it all together? I was under the impression that it's a matter of jumping out some wires

Retaining the Siemens MS41.1 that came with M52s will require a flash to remove EWS. It is not something that can be done with simple rewiring.

Honestly I plan on doing whatever is easiest. I have a project e36 built motor gt35r turbo, and I really just want to buy everything in advance and bang this out in a weekend. I have a spare short block, I'm eventually going to build it into a low comp s52, and run a small turbo on it, so I don't care to go all out now.

Ok, I've heard mention of clipping wire 13/ green wire/ whatever they said, but I guess it would be best to go with the turner chip?

No, that's what people say you do on an OBD-I, Bosch 413 DME.

You will need to send the DME in to a tuner that can delete EWS. I forgot if TRM can do it or not. I know for certain AA can.

He did specify that I would have to convert to obdI for the ecu to work, I'm bit very interested in doing so. I'm considering going MS, just to gain the knowledge.

I would try and get an EWS delete chip for the obd2 (if there is one) before converting to obdI.

BTW how's the E36 turbo coming along?
Need a Turbo manifold? We have them in stock- Click here---> http://rapidspoolindustries.com/

E36 is coming along alright. I haven't updated any of my threads in soo long because progress has been slow and nobody really wants pictures of me tracing threads and applying loctite. There was also an issue with a bit of unwanted attention from locals when I was regularly updating on fb, so I cut that out.

Or an OBD2 EWS delete, which I do. :D

OBD1 may require a chip to delete EWS, OBD2 always requires a flash.
