    Started the m50b27, BUT...

The tach and cluster coolant temp sensor has no been hooked up yet, but everything is there for the ECU.

Car started up immediately when I had the manifolds open, but shut it off immediately so the pipes wouldn't be too hot to remove for final welding.

Now the the exhaust is on and tried to start the car, smelled like fuel out the exhaust, so I think "OK rich, misfire will cause rich" pulled one of the coils out and low-and-behold the well was full of water.

Got everything dried out, car starts and kinda idles, almost surges. Then if I hit the pedal a little, it bogs then revs a little, then bogs, then revs higher.

    In dire need of assistance.

    Thanks,

I thought so as well, but the stethoscope to the ear didn't reveal any.

OK. Trying to diagnose it and started pulling sensor wires.

When the AFM was pulled it idled the same and would die when the throttle plate was open.

Coolant temp sensor made no change, TPS made no change.

IAC made a BIG difference! Still a little surging on idle, but now the motor will rev up properly. Could all this have to do with a bad IAC?

Just a little background on the swap:

MY friend paid someone a lot of money to put his '98 low mile motor/trans in the car, he had the ECU, motor, trans, but was missing some accys and peripherals. Well during the swap the "mechanic" told him he had a 92 motor that was complete and would make the swap easier, so my friend agrees.

Well THREE WEEKS later the motor/trans is in the car, calls my friend and tells him to come over and pay him, the car is running. Friend agrees and comes back to pick up the car. The "mechanic" told my friend that he burned up the ECU during the wiring process, so he would have to get another and the ECU that started the car was the one out of the "mechanic's" swapped car. My friend called the police and there was a big to-do to get the car back and when the whole situation was explained, the "mechanic" showed the police where the ECU was missing out of his car. To make a long story short, the car was towed here to my shop and I made the wiring adapter and got the car started after tracking down three ECU's (413, 405 and 402).

Obviously the 413 (vanos) didn't work with the 92 motor, and we thought maybe the issue was with the 405 (non-vanos) ECU, so we got a 402 and was still having the same issue.

Just now I unplugged the IAC and it runs 100% better. Put some voltage to the IAC to see if it was moving (car running) and it stuck wide open. Now it "seems" to be working better when connected back to the ECU...

Does this sound like something that would happen with a bad IAC?

        Thanks,
