It seems to be dropping too low, nearly cuts out, then (I presume) it throws a load of petrol in to compensate, if that makes sense. Runs fine on throttle, apart from a couple of little flat spots.
It will cut out occasionally when I pull up to junctions etc, still no fault codes.

Ive had enough of faffing with it now so will just get the late 328i ECU remapped to suit as it will run on this without the need for post cat lambda's

i am pretty sure that alpina engine is 3.5 or 3.6 literes. i saw one one ebay.de a few months ago and did some research. as i see it, here are your constraints: different displacement, ecu looking for rear o2 sensors and not getting a signal, and the diameter of the runners of that intake manifold are way bigger than a stock s52. looks like they are even bigger than those for the m50. it would be pretty difficult to hook up o2 sensors since your engine wiring harness doesn't have the wires. that would be the best way though. matt can delete the rears from your ecu. that would be the easiest way to get the job done. if i had that manifold sitting on my engine, i would have a woody. here are a couple of photos from my library of alpina photos "borrowed" from the internet to give a visual.

Nah its deffo 3.2, the largest capacity they did (M52 based) was 3.4 found in the E46.
I have downloaded an Alpina B3 parts catalogue that give the part numbers for everything

The internal diameter of the runners are about the same as an M50 manifold, but the runners are longer and more sweeping, the plenum is also a lot bigger. TBH im pretty gutted it only uses a standard M52 throttle body, what makes it worse is that Ireland Engineering discontinued the oversize M52 throttle just as I was about to order it :(
The Alpina is supposed to use an S50 MAF, I had to change the plug to fit the M52, I also tried an S50 MAF but it ran worse still

        Comparison pic -

Fitting the rear lambdas wouldnt be much of a job but as I dont have cats its a pointless operation as they wouldnt be giving the correct 'clean' signals back to the ECU, its just a case of clipping some connectors into the ECU plug.

Ive got a late E36 328i ECU, 1999 build, that is from an engine with a rear crank sensor same as this Alpina, it runs ok with it, not as good as the S52 ECU but I dont have lambda faults so I will use this when I get it in for mapping. I would like to get hold of an oversize throttle but theres not much chance of that happening now.

Ive got some other photo's of the engine I will dig out so you can see how similar it is to your S52
