This may sound like a stupid question.

But where are people getting there power wire for the alternator from? The power wire isn't built into the engine harness is it? Or is it suppose to be a direct cable from the battery like the starter?

From what I understand, you can get power from the distribution block, or easier yet, get power from the starter (the same point where the starter gets power from the distribution block).

Mine was built into the harness on my 94 525i engine.

It's a separate cable on the E36. It goes from the large lug on the starter to the alternator large lug.

Ok good so I only need like a 2 foot piece of cable. What gauge should I get? Like 2 gauge. Thanks guys, and I'm sure I'll have some more question in the next week as I'm dropping this in.
