I have been having an issue with my puller fan install. I used the spal diagram that keeps popping up in threads, and in the wiki site but everytime I have it connected it seems to ground out my stock aux fan up front and it stays on. I have to disconnect it to have it stop, so now I am running just the stock aux fan. Does anyone have an easier way to wire this up, or have an idea why it is causing the other fan to turn on. Thanks.

I dont really want to rely on a switched method. I want it to come on when the stock aux fan comes on. Does anyone know how to wire it up that way, or why mine keeps grounding off.Comment

^ That's what I've been wanting to know is how a 16" SPAL fan wires into the car, the diagrams aren't helping me much.
Are the wires tied into the radiator temp switch and the fuse box?
Also, it seems like most folks go for a pusher fan in front of the condenser, is that because a puller fan between radiator and engine is too tight of a fit?

I have both the stock fan and a puller in between the rad and engine. It is a tight fit, but clears. I just cant seem to wire it right, lol.Comment

If you have a 3 prong connector for your fan, one wire is +12V and the other two are fan high and fan low.I have been having an issue with my puller fan install. You will take the fan low wire and wire into a relay. pin 86 on the relay. Pin 85 will go to ground.
Then take a fused 30a 12v from the car and put it to pin 30. Then take pin 87 to the fan 12V. Then ground from the fan.
R & R for Fan High.
There you go.

One thing I am still not sure about is when wiring in a fan,
where is the connection point to tie into the ignition switch wiring?

You should take the control off the stock fan switch location. Its already fused, switched and ready to go. As far as switched power goes for the fan, no switched power needed if the control side of the fan is switched with ignition....Past Car : E30 S50 6 Speed 5 Lug 3.73

The stock fan switch is a 3 prong connector. I gave directions above on how to wire an extra fan using the stock fan switch (piggy back or independent).
And what I was saying is that the fan power does not have to be switched since the fan switch already does the switching. (Done via the relay)Past Car : E30 S50 6 Speed 5 Lug 3.73

I too am having issues with my 16" pusher fan. It is an ebay special, and it has only 2 prongs on its connector. Can anyone comment on how to wire this setup?Comment

Its just one speed prob.
You can take your high and low speed wires and tie them together on the some control side of a relay and take the power side of that relay and use it to power one leg of that fan. Other leg to ground.Past Car : E30 S50 6 Speed 5 Lug 3.73

I just run my fan on the high speed circuit in the stock wiring.... of course I took the connector apart and flipped the plugs on the temp sensor on the rad so it comes on quicker. You can also get a lower temp rad switch from bav auto as well.
