    Severe flooding!

Well I have an 87 eta with a 92 m50 and tranny out of a 5252i and for some reason there is sever flooding while trying to start :(

Car was running good before pulling the mani, but surging because of a broken FPR line.

Put new plugs in, tested the coils, they are all throwing spark, but the new plugs are soaked from trying to start already!

At wits end, everything looks up to par, went back over the wiring (pulled the mani to fix a vac leak) using alldata's block diagrams and chasing every color wire.

Any suggestions where to look next?

    Thanks,

    -John

Well turning the key off and holding the TB open, and jumping the starter to clear out the fuel, then opening the TB again and trying to start the car, it wants to - jumps over like it's going to start, then goes dead rich again :(

Would a bad FPR feed too much or too little fuel if the diaphragm was bad? Took the vac line off it, and there's no fuel in it, typically that means the FPR is holding...

Almost to the point of turning this car into a giant Molotov Cocktail!

I have never seen anything like this!

Pinching off the fuel supply line and turning the motor over with ignition off (clear any gas), then starting it, it will run until the fuel is gone from the clamp to the regulator, but will flood out again when the clamp is released.

Took the soft return line from the regulator and blew air through the lines and they are clear, so to see if it was clogged closer to the FPR, put the return line in a bucket, same symptoms and fuel is going in the bucket. Car has always ran slightly rich, even with the m20 in it, but could never track the issue.

Now the flooding is crazy, have you ever seen a bad pump that just went haywire and pumped TOO much fuel? Seems to me as long at never receives over 12v, then there should be a maximum flow rate for it, and should be impossible to happen unles the voltage was increased, right?

Checked all the voltages etc, all good. On a hunch I dug in the shelf's and found a 405 DME (had a 402), car fired right up!!!!!

No codes were on the Snap On scanner with the 402 DME, thought it must be a physical problem, but she's all good now :D :D :D

I so wish I had been able to take a pic of the mid-80's F150 that burned to the ground while towing a boat, which also burned to the ground on the side of the freeway yesterday.

Imma guess bed had gas cans, smoker pitched his shit out the window...BOOM!

Shrapnel across 3 lanes, half dozen fire trucks and STILL had visible flames!

            Closing SOON!

              HAHA!

Well we had more issues later on during the swap, the M50 gearbox wasn't working properly, so we sourced a local 260 and swapped it in. Had to make a custom mount out of the stock e30 cross member, but it all worked out in the end...

and had to adjust the linkage so it didn't hit the tunnel when shifting...

but even with the 2.93's she moves out pretty good!
