    cam position

I brought my car to a reputable shop for the surging idle(faulty ICV) ..the mechanic said the car was sluggish on the test drive......He was concerned with the valve timing .
Is there a quick way to check the cams visually to make sure they are right or not.

    thanksl

You can't visually check them. If they were far enough off to visually see it, your valves would be bouncing off the pistons.

Is it a vanos engine? It could be the vanos going bad. It changes timing by up to 12 degrees, which is more then enough to cause some driveability problems.
