Rtv seems to be holding it fairly well today. I'll pick one up anyways for when it fails.Leave a comment:

RTV or silicone wont hold, I've tried it.
I ended up pulling the entire solenoid out and making a plastic plate to keep it open 24/7 because I didn't have $200 and I couldn't find a good one in the parts yard. It sucked having the heater on 100% the whole time, but my AC didn't work anyway.
You don't have to remove the dash, just the center console and knee bolster/kick panel. Pulling the drivers seat makes it easier, and having a few towels on hand to catch or mop up the water that will undoubtedly come from the heater control and core.
I recommend backflushing the cooling system or replacing the heater core while you're at it.Leave a comment:

just pull out your driver seat and get to work... those little screws/bolts are the worst.... have fun with that, make sure you have some towels ready too.Leave a comment:

When I get home I'm gonna throw some rtv around the part that's leaking and see if that helps for now, if not, oh well.Leave a comment:

That is more trouble than it's worth, because the valve is held in place by a triangular flange, and is made watertight with an o-ring. You'd have to do some real hacking to get things to be watertight with a bypass pipe. You can usually get a used valve for like $20. Get a used valve.Leave a comment:

What would happen if I just replaced the valve with a straight piece of pipe? I have no ac so it wouldn't matter to me if my heat was on all he time. I always just shut all the vents anyway and have the windows down when its hot. Thoughts?Leave a comment:

you can get to it without pulling the dash.
