Track day made my valves sing

Hey guys, last track day today so I went out, had fun but about 5mins before the end I heard the valves (I think) inside the car after two harder turns. Sort of like the valve chatter on cold winter starts (normal for M50 iirc). So I slowed down and revved from idle to 2k in neutral and the clicking was in the rhythm of the revs. Oil temp at this time was about 110-115°C.
I chickened out and left the track, but after it cooled down a little, I couldn't hear it anymore. I didn't overrev during the run.

I've read that some ppl overfill the oil for TDs (top mark), which I had in plan but didn't do, but there was enough oil (before and after) a tiny bit under halfway.

I then drove home a little harder, revved and all and I don't hear it anymore. Idle is just fine, nothing irregular. Oil pressure is fine (and was the whole time).
    Something to worry about?

I've noticed my NV will get valve tick when I rail on the car uphill for awhile, then I'll get a bit uneasy and turn around and let it idle and cool off. My car runs a bit hot if I run it uphill, so I chalked it up to oil temp and it hasn't seemed to hurt anything after the few times it's happened. I don't think it's starvation as my level was okay and it would continue until the car cooled down. I have heard of some DOHC guys hearing their valves due to starvation around long sweepers on the track as well.

      Running 10w60 btw.
Yea, I'm thinking starvation. Though it never happenned on the last two TDs, only difference is that it was cooler out today. Iirc it was long left turn in third 3000rpm, straight - rev up to 4500, off gas, brake, still in third into quick left, into quick right, into straight 6500, fourth up to about 5500, downhill hard brake, downshift to third and 4000, long right. Then I noticed it.
Or the oil isn't performing as well at the temp anymore. I've had this oil about 5kKm DD and before today an hour of track time.

hydraulic lifters can also bleed out at high RPM, basically they can't flow the high volume/pressure of oil at such a high RPM and they lose pressure.

Definitely overfill the oil for a trackday. I run just over the top mark.

Thanks Matt. And do you then drain that approx. amount (if you DD)? Suck it out from the filter housing? Reuse it?

My car is not a DD, but it does leak from the oil drain plug, so oil goes in the top and comes out the bottom. :p

Or I could work out a baffle during the winter, not a bad idea. Thanks guys.

Hey guys, I was searching on info about the valve tick problem, mostly found forums with various, some crazy, attemps at fixing the "problem".
Then I came across this awesome troubleshooting page.
