Im swapping a M50 into my e30 318i, the m50 was out of an auto 325i, can i use the auto harness in my 318 that was 5spd?

Yes, you can cut off the harness for the auto for a cleaner look and less wires to worry about.

you need to remove the wiring for the auto start relay and neutral switch, and convert it to how a manual is wired, or it won't start.

if you're not comfortable modifying the wiring, it might be easier to find a manual harness.

It's not really any harder than starting with a manual harness you just have more wires that you can get rid of or use for other stuff. Just use the ETM's for both cars and read through start to finish writing down ever instance of c101 and x20.

The fact that it is an e34 harness might make it a bit harder though because the DME location is in the engine bay on that car so the x6000 connector wires for the DME are shorter.

              Read this thread: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=147862

Then go to www.wedophones.com and download the etm for the car the engine came from and the car it is going into.

You will also have to convert the e30 bodyside wiring to that of a 5 speed car. That is what nando means about removing the start relay and neutral safety switch just search for a DIY on 5 speed conversions, you can also remove the kickdown switch under the gas pedal.

Well that or wire it up to your NOS bottle fo mo powa!

Let me clear up some stuff. The e30 is a 5spd, so the body side is already 5spd. The M50 engine is out of an Auto E36, not an E34.

you still need to mod the engine harness. on automatics power to pin 81 goes through all the automatic wiring crap. on a manual it gets 12v straight from the main relay.

Even with the Treehouse racing harness adapter, you still need to modify the automatic harness to get it to work?

well unless you want to have all those extra wires and connectors that you don't need.

I wish I'd used an Auto E36 harness rather than a manual E34 harness..

Oh, so basically its a direct swap. I can just cut off what I don't need and cap it?

Sorry for all the questions, i'm just new to this lol.

use the ETM for the year of your harness as a guide, it should be pretty straight forward.
