I will check the cam sensor. I plan on getting the two rear O2 sensors and the secondary air pump coded out of the DME by Matt at TRM.

I'm still not sure if I'm going to drill and tap the head for the coolant temp sensor, but I have plenty of time to figure out what I'm going to do with that.

    Thanks for the reply.

If I use the S50 fuel rail with integrated FPR, do I still need the 3/2 way valve? Thanks guys.

No. I highly recommend going with the OBD1 fuel rail and intake manifold.

Thanks, Matt, I'll be in touch soon. I have an s50 intake manifold, fuel rail, and throttle body coming to me within the next few days courtesy of a forum member.

And why swap to OBD2? First off, I like the diagnostic properties of OBD2. Second, I have the entire car, so why would I want to convert to OBD1 when the only gain is an M50 intake? I'm going to swap to an M50 intake anyway, so why spend the the plethora of extra money to delete all the OBD2 stuff and buy all the OBD1 stuff when the only gain is the intake??

Not to be an ass, but am I missing something in the "convert to OBD1" bandwagon?
If you want to run FI later on, tuning with OBD1 is a better route to go. I was doing the same thing you were and staying OBDII because i had the whole car too, but unfortunatly i had my ECU stolen so i just ended up converting to OBDI. Which ended up being bettter cause i am going FI now.

you have all the parts so stick with obd2. here is my thread from some time back. should be plenty of help there.

the junk yard plug you found won't work perfectly because some of the wires/pins will be off. you can use it but it you will have to do some work on it. if you have questions, pm me.

Good point, I never even thought of that. Maybe I'll just hard wire it instead of doing an adapter. I've got plenty of time to think about it, not going to start the swap until I get home from school.

Assuming you are good with wiring and electronics then you'll be okay going obd2. This was my first engine swap or major car project and I had a 328is and thought the same way that you did. I ended up spending several months trying obd2 and in the end just gave up and went obd1 which was much easier. This comes back to my lack of experience, though. For me, I wish I would have just gone obd1 and been done with it several months earlier...
