    AKG motor mount direction

Alright, I'm just getting everything lined up to drop in my s50 next weekend. I have the AKG m/s50 specific motor mounts, do the studs on the mount go through the inner hole on the subframe or the outer hole?

Figure the more I know up front the less I have to figure out as I go along next weekend.

    Outer.
    The mounts are side specific.

This is the left hand side mount.
Notice that the taller or convex side is on facing the block.

    sorry 'bout the pic size.

Thanks for the help and the pic. I figured they were, this should save me from trial and error time.

Sorry to bump such an old thread. I recently got some akg swap mounts. They don't include any instructions or diagrams, and that picture really helped me out after searching for posts. However, I'm not so sure if 7pilot's response is still accurate. At least not with the mounts I recently got.

To be sure, I emailed akg and here's their response in case anyone else is wondering.

As for installation, my guess is that the studs go through the
subframe's inner-hole and the mount's tab goes through the outer
slotted hole of the subframe. Is this correct? After fitting them
this way, things look about right. I just didn't consider that they
might be side specific, and would like to make sure.

Yes, you are correct on the positioning of the studs and tab.

Due to the angle of the mounts, when installing it is sometimes easiest to
loosen one engine bracket, and fit the motor mount stud through before
lowering the motor all the way. This will ensure the angle and fitment is
correct. Things may look a bit off, but once you tighten everything down
completely, the fit will be correct.
        Hope this helps!

          I see what you mean.
The picture is of a correct installation.
The threaded stud goes through the inner hole and the locating stud in the outer.
Make sure you have welded in sub-frame reinforcements.
I also added a heat shield to the RH mount to protect it from header heat during periods of idle.
Make sure you have them sitting loosely so that they have a good amount of wiggle when you drop the engine in.
It'll prevent you from hyperventilating when at first glance, things look far from matching up.

Did you make your own heat shield? I was wondering if any oem ones were able to be used, or if people are just making their own. I haven't been able to find pictures of setups that use a heat shield as a reference. I guess it's one of those things that are simple enough to be self explanatory, but I don't trust my assumptions.

I bought Revshift mounts and they use the outer slotted holes.. which to me is kinda ghetto but it works. Just be aware that if u use them and havenever reinforcements u will need to do some grinding to the plates to get the nuts on the mount

You can use the Revshifts in the round hole, it's how I have mine.

we use the AKG mounts with the e36 heat shields, often two of them butterflied to protect the mounts.

I called revshift about that and they said some guys use the round holes also... I couldn't see any way that that would work I have the subframe loose and the engines on a stand... I would have to stress out the mounts in order to get them into those other holes and once its alla tight they would be a little tweaked wouldn't they? Seems like this would cause premature failure

Yeah, I don't really care for how they sit but they have been in for a year and haven't failed yet. Soon I will be getting AKG's or just making my own mounts that fit better.

I was kinda annoyed when the dude at Revshift told me they just copied e28 mounts. I thought I was buying a bolt in swap mount that fit the factory holes. No biggie though as its pretty much the least of worries when getting a swap done

Anyone know what these mounts should be torqued at? IIRC the stock mounts should be torqued roughly 30ftlbs?
