    couple noob m50 removal questions

Ok so im swapping a m50 from one e30 to another for a friend and i could use a lil guidance,I have pulled and installed a few m20s n have a hoist and load leveler but its my first time workin on a m50.First of all, where do you hook the chains up to pull it out? I searched and saw a pic on rm european i believe but its not a close up. Also, what needs to be removed from the front of the motor to make it easier,i read the ac comp and harmonic balancer. besides that i figured i would take pics and label everything. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks

One chain goes on the front of the motor on the bracket/eyelet connected to the front of the head.

For the second chain there are two ways. If pulling with the manifold still attached there is an opening in the manifold that has a bracket underneath (if still there). This has a threaded part on it where you can insert an eyelet or a bolt (if you can manage to support the weight).

Second option for the rear with the manifold off would be to use the hole on the block just above the starter, you cant miss it.

As far as removing things from the motor, AC compressor and bracket/tensioner need to come off, but this may require removing the harmonic balancer first since there are two bolts behind it that hold the bracket/tensioner to the block.

    Hope this helps.

i put so much angle on mine that i take the intake manifold and use that bracket anyways.
Remove A/C and PS to help clear the radiator frame.. remove radiator obviously.
You can actually leave the PS pump hooked up to the lines.

pull it out with headers, transmission and electrical harness attached.
I like to remove the shifter linkage too.

^^ for the eyelet, as mentioned above, your oe wheel studs will do the job, you just need a nut (i use a wheel nut from my stud conversion). Even hand tightened is okay.

front chain on provided lifting plate, rear basically just find a nice size bolt and thread it into the block with the chain on it(iirc there is a nice hole near the starter mount for a bolt and chain.. or if you have lots of chain you can sling the rear by the tranny... thats how i did it removing the M20

bump,i just got the intake manifold off and electrical all disconnected and labeled but i cant see where you hook up an eyelet or bolt to the front of the head. Does anybody have a picture or specific location? all thats in that area is valve cover bolts and what appears to be the vanos sensor...which dont look like they would hold the weight...i did find the bracket and hole near the starter so thats all set.
