That is understandable... the high/1200 rpm base idle.

I just changed the chip back to the stock 413 red lable chip and i didn't have any issues. How is this possible?

I'm a little confused... it idles normally with a stock chip and at 1200rpm with ours?

Are you sure you didn't change anything else? It sounds like a bad TPS, or an air leak, or both. But you definitely need to get a working O2 sensor installed. And fix your CEL so you can check your codes.

It idles at 1200 with both chips, bit after about 1 min the trm chip will jump up to around 2700-2800 rpms. I want to do some more playing with the stock chip but screwed up the pins pulling it out the last time, when I bent them back 1 became weak.
        Have any ideas?

How am I supposed to fix the cell on a e36? Don't know enough about them...
O2 sensor is in the mail. Tried another tps off a good running car. I can't find any air leaks. I fixed any that I could find.

When you do an OBD1 conversion, you need to move the pin for the CEL from pin one of the small connector to whichever pin it is on an OBD1 harness. I don't have that in my notes right here.

You definitely have something weird going on, I think it's probably still an air leak issue. The idle should be no higher than 850.

You should check your coolant temp sensor wiring also.

I have a turner adapter for the coolant temp sensor. I'll search bimmerforums or something for that pin info.

Do you have the connectors backwards?

the single 4 pin into dual 2 pin? iirc it doesn't work when used in e30 swaps as the cluster is not able to read from the e36 sensor.

I'm 99.9% positive that I don't have them messed up. Checked everything multiple times when installing the harness but I'll try swapping them around tomorrow. Honestly I'm open to a out anything this thing has to be in storage before snow and they are talking about snow this week... Eww

I'm not finding any info, what connector are you talking about, x20?

OBD2 cars have 3 round connectors by the fuse box. The small one out of the 3 connectors has the check engine light signal at pin 1.

OBD1 cars (and engine harnesses) have the CEL signal in the X20 connector. (The "main" one of the 3 round connectors) I dont know which pin off-hand.

You need you make the connection between these two wires.

So a little searching, it looks like I'm supposed to make a jumper from from pin 1 on that small plug to pin 8 on the x20. Do i need to remove the pin from the x20 for will a jumper wire from pin 8 to pin 1 be fine?

For anybody that might need this info in the future-
Need to splice pin 8 of the X20 connector to pin 1 of the x6031 (the smallest connector by the fuse box).
This is for e36 obd1 swap check engine function.
