How long can you drive with just headers?

I did a lot of work to my car: HG, Clutch replace, flywheel replace, etc. and I chnages my M50 headers to S52. My current exhaust setup doesnt seem to bolt up to the headers directly; so I need to drive to the exhaust shop so they can do the work and connect my exhaust to the headers. How far can I drive with just headers?

You'll be running rich without O2 sensor feedback, but that isn't going to be a long term issue.

Driving to your exhaust shop and not getting the attention of the police will be more important to worry about, IMO.

You may be deaf when you get there, it's going to be louder than you can imagine.

Do you have AAA? Just tow it.

If they're long headers, you're fine except for running rich and it being extremely loud. If they're short headers, Id be most worried about carbon monoxide getting into the cabin.

How far do you need to take it?

you will be totally fine. I drove around for 6 months witha 1"" gap between my headers and my stock exhaust on my e46.

              This.

I drove about 3 miles to the exhaust shop with only headers on my m50 when i put it in the e30. This was at 6:30 AM, people were not pleased.

I spent a lot of time in my track car with open headers before getting my exhaust built. I also drove my m50 car with open headers for about a week. Come to think of it, any time I've had the exhaust off my car, I make sure to take it for a drive before reinstalling it.

                  Music to my ears :)

Thanks for the input guys. I am just going to drive it about 2.5 miles. The question I have now is how I am going to get the whole exhaust system there. But thats just for me to figure out.

Is it a full exhaust already? I bought 2.5" stainless tubing and had the guy at the shop cut it and fab it. He did everything wrong, make sure they do exactly what you want.

I was on the same situation and thought I would just drive to the just with open header. Shop is only like 2 miles away and I still didn't drive it due to the loudness off it. I just called a tow truck. You'll be stopped for sure.

I drove about 10 miles on shorty headers and it was deafening. I didn't get above probably 2500. But, the best part was, when I drove up, the guy at the exhaust shop said, "I figured you were coming here when I heard you a mile up the road" LOLz

I do already have a full exhaust... But the exh doesnt match to the flanges of the s52 headers I got. Thats why I need a shop. I just spent an hour tying the exhaust up to the body with a ratcheting strap. I am just going to drive the car there slowly with the exhaust strapped to the bottom. Hopefully it gets there - without scraping, lol.
