Car cuts and turns off during harder(er) acceleration

If I drive softly, my revs will climb up fine. I only went to 3500 though because of my new clutch and flywheel. However, if I try to accelerate harder my car cuts and turns off at 2500. I drove softly until 3000 and noticed it didnt cut, so I tried to accelerate harder again and it cut and turned off at 3500rpm. I also seem to feel like a loss in power.

What could it be? Fuel pump relay? fuel filter? fuel pump?

Unhook your battery or ECU, whichever is easiest for you. Plug it back in. Start it up and immediately get on it. A buddy had this issue in his m50, it was his ECU.

EDIT: this MIGHT be your problem, but hope it helps.

Wow I will try it. How long should I have the batt unhooked for?

I am trying to... but it still cuts when I try to accelerate. This problem was there even when my exhaust was connected with the old M50 headers before I changed them to s52 headers.

I am just wondering... The ecu I have on the car has endured an over-rev. Could it be that it is protecting itself and shuts off even if I just try to accelerate a little harder?

I had a very similiar problem with my m20 and it ended up being one of the ground wires from my started post was loose. I rechecked the wiring and tighten them down and the problem never came back. It may or not be the case for you but it might help.

Shouldn't need to leave it unhooked for long at all.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. Please keep the ideas coming. I am going to try to eliminate some of these possibilities. But also to mention, I do feel a loss in power as far as the motor goes. The motor seems to be less ballsy; and I can get up to about 3000rpm if I go very smoothly through gears. But if I even try to put a little bit of throttle on it, it can shut off even at 2500 or 3000; the shutting off is like the key was just taken out of the ignition while driving. WEIRD!

I would guess MAF sensor personally.
                            Tried cleaning the throttle body?
