S52 headers on M50 block - what do I do here?

I notice exhaust coming out of these holes. What can I do to stop it?

I would say you should have a shop weld plates over them, I don't think jb weld would do it...

Edit: or you could build some block off plates out of steel plate procured from a local welding shop, and seal them off that way with some custom cut high temp headwr gasket material, then just drill holes in the plate, and use the header bolts to hold said plate down.

People will usually weld the channel on the other side of the flange closed.

If you already have it mounted you'll need to bolt something over the hole. A blockoff plate.

It won't hurt anything to leave it that way for a while, but would get annoying.

Ya, it's mounted. If I get a plate to hold on there using the exh mani bolts, no exhaust should leak out right?

Haha, yeah those are the EGR ports, and you'll need them welded shut. It's not that tough of a welding job, a friend did mine for me.

                yep, that will work fine.

Ideally, yes. I wouldn't take everything off just to weld it when a cover plate will work fine.

Been playing with the idea of what to put in that spot to stop the fumes but I am not sure what's best without taking out the headers. I want to put in a plate, but it is kind of a wierd shape. Is there something I can get from home depot? I don's have any welding experience mind you.

I had mine welded closed but also used a block off plate. Check out this post: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...0&postcount=20

no its not. The silver part is a drop in the plate.

You could be kinda ghetto and use the old tubes that bolted there and have them welded up. That would be easier because you could just bolt the welded piece on. Would look like shit though...

Just take the damn things off and do it right. Weld and grind. Then never worry about them again.

Was thinking that as my last resort, which is something I am eventaully going to do. But for now... I just got to get this blocked so I can take the car to a shop to get diagnosed (there's a bigger prob I am dealing with).

Are these mounted yet? My block off plates on my M/S52 headers have a leak on them and its causing it to tick. Not nearly as fast as yours though, it's just the valve opening and closing.
