    Fan wiring

I know this has been covered and I have read a lot of threads pertaining to this question, but there's a lot of ways to do it and I just wanted to make sure I was doing this correctly. I have a pusher fan mounted to the radiator, I have removed the A/C.

So here's what I was going to do, I was going to use the temperature switch in the radiator that used to run the aux fan. I was going to take the existing wiring that attached to the aux fan which was 3 wires, red, black and brown. I was going to tie together the red and black and connect that to the red on the new fan and then connect the two grounds...... ?? That should work correct? Thanks for any input.

Sounds right. Crazy to think you put red and black together and then tie it to red on the fan but thats it. Brown = ground on the chassis side and black = ground on the SPAL side.

I know it. The funny thing is on the 87 and earlier everything is opposite. So I have a late model radiator, so I have to run the thermswitch accross the the pass side and the expansion tank float to the other.

Question, would it be safe to assume that all brown wires on a BMW are ground? Would it be stupid to say that all brown wires, even with stripes of various colors are a form of ground?

most of them are, but don't take it for granted - find a copy of the ETM for your car and look it up.

Best thing to do right here. The aux fan is usually a one-page diagram..
