It would make the AT sump pan crooked and cause fluid pickup problems.
Plus it's an ancient dog of a 4-spd. Try to get an e36 tranny, the M3s came with them.Comment

the E36 trans are terrible though - aren't they made by GM?
it's definitely going to be a lot harder to do an auto either way. I'm thinking if you have to ask, the answer is probably no..Comment

The five speed auto for the m's are much better, the e36/9 problem with 4 speed autos comes down to life time fluids. No modern auto transmissions last 120k miles anyways.1985 BMW 325e

but there's more wiring involved in this - I have more faith that people will use zip ties, duct tape, and balls of electrical-tape-splices wherever possible rather than ingenuity..Comment

a gf / wife who doesn't know and/or refuses to learn how to drive manual is definitely a deal breaker in my book.
it starts with a auto trans then just builds from there, sooner or later you'll have your balls in vice grips.
tell him to man up and teach the bitch lolComment

i just have to ROFL @ all the women that refuse to drive stick. my fiancée wont drive anything that isn't manual. i just did a auto to manual swap on my e30 and ya the auto is good for commuting. but to have the ultimate driving machine, IMO its gotta be manual. the e36 auto trans is the only way to go, the e30 ones are fragile even with 170HP let alone 210+ GL with the swap.Comment
