    Modifying Oil Filter Housing

Has anyone with this m50 style oil filter housing modified it to run an oil cooler? Picked this up at the yard today as i had not seen one like it before.

Nothing too special there just an OBDI oil filter housing, am I missing something?

You can buy modified caps with fittings for oil cooler hoses or drill out/ weld the cap to accept AN fittings.

Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Yeah thats all it is really, it's just a different casting than i've seen before. There is more than one housing design for m50, just trying to see if anyone modified this style.

Nope, the holes don't go through all the way. At first i got excited though hah.

Thats not the standard OBD I housing, at least not in the US. It looks like the euro filter housing which are like $400.

This is that part to use to hook up a cooler using -an 10 lines.

You also might need this special banjo bolt to hook up the vanos

edit just read this and noticed that the holes don't go though:

I think all you have to do is just drill out the thin wall between and then connect lines. I'm not sure if there is suposed to be a thomostate so the oil does not cool too much.

There is usually a thermostat behind the hole closest to the front of the car. This housing has the spot for it where it fits with a snap ring. Seems like it would be an easy conversion if thermostats were available. I've seen some 'full flow' valve replacements that would prob do the trick.

Interesting. My oil filter housing has the pressure switch on the back not the side and also has the allen head plug as is mentioned in that thread, does that mean my engine was from an mz3? Hmmm. I never ran the VIN. I never knew the difference between euro and US housings before.

I assume mz3 = m roadster/m coupe? The only ones that would have the oil housing with cooler ports are the S54 (US).

Here is a couple of pics for reference of an s50b30 oil filter housing i sold the other week:

And here's mine with sensor + blank (into which I eventually installed a VDO sender).
