fyeah... i just got mine today... and had to buy one for my friend who is going to weld it all for me
i'm running 2.5" on my s52 though. Y-Straight-BorlaX1. Simple, Light, Quiet, Good growl and the sound of the intake is barely noticed and many times sexier than the exhaust!Leave a comment:

The drop to 2.5 will make less of a difference vs choosing a quieter muffler. The Vibrant has my favorite tone out of any other muffler I've heard on the 24v engines, but it is VERY loud. Can't wait to here the same set-up on my s54 this summer!

If I moved them upstream they would be harder to get to, and removing the headers would be a major, major PITA. I will measure how far they sit below the frame rail, I'm guessing about 3/4" to 1".
I'm afraid that one day a bump will snag the band and rip it off. Bands are not universal, they fit the vendor they came from.Leave a comment:

could you move them? I haven't scraped my 3" vband at all, but it's right between the rear tires. My header clamps are much further upstream than yours.Leave a comment:

My header V-bands are right behind the CAB and they are low enough to scrape if I hit a speed bump too fast, even though the exhaust is tucked. I'm thinking about welding or bolting a skid onto the frame rail to protect the exhaust .
But, yes, I can remove my center section in about 45 seconds. Three v-band clamps, that's it.

I'm actually going back this week to the muffler shop. I want to change out the flanges for v-bands.. or sanitary with a grafoil gasket. What i have right now starts to leak after a month. my car sounds like a pickup-truck by now.Leave a comment:

I didn't even see the video you posted the first time I went trough this thread nando. I was very surprised at how quiet your car is. I didn't know a 3 inch could be that quiet. I have set off at least 3 car alarms just by starting my car next to other ones in a parking spot. Maybe I will try and get a muffler to throw on the back first and see how it sounds.Leave a comment:

add more mufflers if yours is too loud, no need to redo the whole exhaust.
my exhaust is actually far quieter than that video lets on - 90% of that sound is intake. If I stick the stock airbox on the car it gets much quieter, it's more like a woosh of air than anything.Leave a comment:

Wow that 2.5 sounds awesome man. I have a single 3 inch with a vibrant resonator and I need to get something else. It's just a little too much for me. I might try and go a similar route with your 2.5.Nando, you're car is friggin quiet! :shock:
Anyway here was my 3" set-up:
3" > Monstrous 26" Accelarator Muffler > 3" > 3" Vibrant Street Power Muffler
Not as nice as my 2.5" set-up with the Borla Pro-XS in the middle and Vibrant at the end.
The Vibrant made the exhaust loud, but it's my favorite sounding muffler hands down!

I got a friend at Magnaflow, so I will get it super cheap from him. Thanks for the help man!Internally the 14589 has an angled pipe. It is still "straight through", however, as the pipe remains at the same size throughout the entire can, and is a straight shot between inlet and outlet.
It won't make a difference one way or the other; you might get slightly more clearance to the axle halfshaft by choosing an offset in muffler.
