An '87 ETA wont work in an I because of the coding plug IIRC. The issue comes about that you're reading entirely wrong. I ran a Moto '84 cluster in my S50 '86 and was fine but the RPM's where WAAAAY off. I could touch back to 1000rpm before I felt the engine slug at all.
    Need a part? PM me.

Yeah, I know, I think the eta also has a redline of 5k? I think you can just change the coding plug as well. But I'll look for an i.

Sorry to bump, but wanted a little clarification..

Running an s52 with a 318is cluster.. I think my RPM's are running way high.. car reads idle at about 1500 RPM.. when I take off it seems like the RPM's are going up way too fast, and when I go beyond 7k RPM the needle starts bouncing around like crazy, but I feel like the car has so much more to go in sound, feel and power.. Do I need to swap a coding plug or do I need to rewire something?

When the car is idling, it definitely does not sound like a 1500 RPM idle..

I had the exact same thing with my car with an s50 and the 318is cluster. Swapped in a 325i coding plug and it works perfectly.
