Everywhere I read it says I can use the m20 clutch fan on an m50 swap with an m42 radiator, but noone knows for sure about the m42 fan, the clutch is the same between the two, but the m42 has a slightly smaller fan, you guys think it should work?

If the fan is smaller, it should work.
I highly recommend the diesel euro fan, though. It's got a tough ring around the blades on the outside, which means that iy isn't going to come apart and shred stuff if you guess wrong about clearance.2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4WD LBZ/Allison

I was not aware that any clutch fan setup worked on an M42 radiator??? I thought the placement of the expansion tank gets in the way of having a clutch fan.
If this is possible, I would like to know the details.-Justin

m20 = m50 radiator :) late model e30 rad pn = e36 radiator. even If you have the early style e30 radiator the e36 rad will pretty much pnp install.OBD1 M54/M52TU swap as a M50b25

im running an aftermarket all aluminum E36 rad with the stock M20 fan and clutch. I have at MOST 1/2 inch of clearance between the two. I will most likely change to an electric puller fan shortly (when funds are available) to prevent radiator damage as the engine mounts ageComment

i had a late model e30 rad an it was hitting the clutchfan, so i used my early model rad
the slim one. the fan spins freely but it still rubs the rad, dont know if i did something wrong im using m20 fan. temp gauge is always on the middle mark even on hot days in traffic.Comment

I'd say that in hotter climates you simply can't beat the effectiveness of the clutch fan. The electric fans don't hold a candle to it. Having said that, you could get a super powerful fan but it will sound like a friggin 10hp shop vac when it turns on.IG: deniso_nsi Leave me feedback here

I went with an ffd puller in front, it turns on when the needle hits the halfway mark and the aux fan comes on at the same time. Very effective.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.
