The E21 mounts are harder and more substantial than the factory E36 M3 transmission mounts.
They should be fine by themselves but sometimes over-engineering can be good.
They fight the torque motion of the engine when the clutch is let out as well as support the trans.
The engine mounts secure the engine.

The cups simply reinforce the mounts and don't allow as much movement. The cups are not needed to run the e21 mounts and many people including myself are running them this way without any issues.-Justin

they fit right up. The only modification you need is to drill the mounting holes on the mounting brace from an 8mm hole to a 10mm because the studs that are on the e21 mounts are bigger than the original 8mm that the getrag260 e30 mounts had.1989 E30 Zinnoberrot Vert 325i OBD1 S52 turbo;IPComment

I've been on stock e36 mounts and its been just fine for me. Then again my car sees more street use than track use...
I chose to go with stock mounts simply because I didn't want the added vibration.IG: deniso_nsi Leave me feedback here
