    E21 Transmission Mount Cups, why????

What are these AKG E21 transmission mount cups for?

Are they needed in order to use the E21 mounts in combination with a G260?

So that the radiator fan does not dig into the radiator

      Right.

I'm using an electric fan so not a problem.

      Thanks

Regardless of that, the rubber mounts are not strong enough, they may rip under heavy braking, those cups prevent engine movement forward and rearward

Why not just use stock G260 mounts then?

The E21 mounts are harder and more substantial than the factory E36 M3 transmission mounts.
They should be fine by themselves but sometimes over-engineering can be good.
They fight the torque motion of the engine when the clutch is let out as well as support the trans.

The engine mounts secure the engine.

The cups simply reinforce the mounts and don't allow as much movement. The cups are not needed to run the e21 mounts and many people including myself are running them this way without any issues.

I used those. The less movement with transmission the better. They're way stiffer, but They'll be a little louder from driving noise but its worth it. And they arent that expensive so its no biggie.

They're great. I run them on my car. Aside from the rigidity the cups keep dirt/oil off the mounts as a bonus.

Do e21 mounts need modified or they fit right up?

they fit right up. The only modification you need is to drill the mounting holes on the mounting brace from an 8mm hole to a 10mm because the studs that are on the e21 mounts are bigger than the original 8mm that the getrag260 e30 mounts had.

Does the color matter on the E21 tranny mounts? I've seen them come in the blk rubber look and some that are a green coate color. Do the colors mean anything?

I've been on stock e36 mounts and its been just fine for me. Then again my car sees more street use than track use...

I chose to go with stock mounts simply because I didn't want the added vibration.
