c101 pictures need the ok to go

here is a image i put together showing a picture of the c101 connector and the e30-m50 wiring at the c101 (not made by me) but its the one i am using and it has been perfectly accurate when compared to any others i have found.

my question is.. is this the correct photo and pin numbering that is posted for the c101 picture i have seen another diagram that does not match with this. i have looked threw the bmw manual link that everyone always posts but cant find the c101 information for my year (90) any help would be appreciated thanks

they are numbered but they are pretty small. Squint hard. ;)

otherwise - be wary of trusting online charts. many of them are flat wrong, or are missing stuff. for example, on 1990 and later cars, you can melt your harness depending on how you hook up pin 20. also wire colors can vary from different years. the best way to do it, would be to download the ETM for your car and the car your new harness came from, and make your own chart.

you need to go through the engine management section and write down the pin #/color for every instance of "c101" that you see (for the E30). and the same "x20" (E36). then just match them up. The x20 has more functions than the C101 but most of them you won't need.

or, close your eyes, hope for the best, and jump into the ocean head first. ;)

I have a '90 as well. Did the ETM look through process twice (because I'm troubleshooting) using both the '91 Vert manual and the '89 i/is manual. Got the same result using both.

To clarify I meant I got the same results both times I did it not necessarily the same as yours. I couldn't see the picture at work so I didn't look at your results.

ok so i went and took my third look at the diagrams and finally figured out what everyone was trying to tell me sorry im slow haha

the diagram i have posted above matched everything in the diagram for my car (90 325i) for the e30 side function wise. half of the wiring colors matched up but as long as a took the info from the book and not from a random diagram without even a year of the car posted i can trust it a lot more.

i still need to go to the junk yard and figure out what year the e36 is that i pulled my harness and dme from to find out the e36 side.

the question i have for you guys is when i am looking at the c101 clip above am i looking at the chassis side with the wires exiting the back of the clip or am i looking at the engine side with the wires coming out of the back?

i don't want to have all the wires on the opposite side of the clip when its all together. thanks

There should be a VIN number on the DME.

IIRC the numbers are on both sides of the clip.
